Sol's lightsaber was the personal single-bladed royal blue lightsaber of Jedi Master Sol.[1] In 132 BBY,[6] the weapon was damaged after Sol was disarmed by former Sith assassin Mae-ho Aniseya, after a duel on Brendok.
The damaged weapon was retrieved by Sol's former Jedi Padawan, and Mae's twin, Verosha Aniseya, who bled its kyber crystal while strangling Sol by use of the Force for his part in the murder of the twins' mother. Afterwards, Osha took the weapon with her when embarking on her Sith training with an enigmatic figure named Qimir and made it her personal Sith lightsaber.
Description[]
Sol's lightsaber originally featured a plain silver hilt with black grips and divots near the emitter. It was a single-bladed weapon and had a royal blue blade.[1]
It was damaged by Mae-ho Aniseya during a confrontation on Brendok, chipping the emitter and exposing the crystal within. The crystal itself was later bled red by her twin, Osha, after she choked Sol to death in revenge for the deaths of the twins' mother and coven.[2]
History[]
Wielded by Sol[]
Tragedy on Brendok[]
In 148 BBY,[7] while stationed on the planet Brendok as part of a survey team consisting of Jedi Masters Kelnacca and Indara, as well as her Padawan, Torbin, Sol showed his weapon to the young girl Verosha Aniseya while telling her that he thought she would make a fine Jedi.[8]
Later that night, under the pretense of fearing for Osha and her twin's safety, Sol returned to the fortress that housed the girls' coven. After a disagreement with their mother, Sol ignited the weapon and killed her to prevent her from escaping with Mae, mistaking the girl for her twin, Osha.[9]
The death of Mother Aniseya prompted retaliation from her partner, Mother Koril, and the rest of the coven. The witches took control of Kelnacca and forced him to fight against Sol and Torbin. Sol used the lightsaber to defend himself in the ensuing conflict. The Wookiee Jedi was later subdued by Master Indara.[9]
Investigating Jedi Murders[]
Sixteen years later, in 132 BBY,[6] while hunting down Mae for the murders of Masters Indara and Torbin, Sol traveled to the planet Khofar with his apprentice Jecki Lon, Jedi Knight Yord Fandar, and five other Jedi to warn Master Kelnacca that he was being hunted by the young Sith assassin. Sol used the weapon to cut down an umbramoth who attacked Osha Aniseya.[3]
That night, after discovering Kelnacca murdered, Sol brandished his lightsaber against a mysterious dark warrior claiming to be a Sith. The ensuing duel saw the death of every Jedi except Sol, who managed to fend off the stranger until Osha was able to distract him with a swarm of umbramoths.[10]
The following day, having captured Mae, Sol returned to Brendok hoping to prove the existence of a vergence in the Force to Master Vernestra Rwoh. After Mae's escape, Sol chased her through her coven's deteriorated fortress, whereupon he encountered "The Stranger" again. The two engaged in a lengthy duel, which Sol won by disarming the Sith and destroying his lightsaber. The reappearance of Mae prevented Sol from restraining the Sith, however, and the former Sith assassin disarmed him of his lightsaber, tossing it aside and chipping its emitter matrix.[2]
Wielded by Verosha Aniseya[]
While Sol was distracted by Mae, Osha was able to retrieve the fallen weapon. Strangling Sol for his confession to murdering her mother, Osha came into contact with the exposed crystal within Sol's lightsaber and unintentionally poured her anger into it, bleeding the crystal red.[2]
Refusing to be pitied by The Stranger , Osha ignited the blade against him as it was still being bled. All three dark warriors then watched in shock as its formerly royal blue blade turned completely scarlet. After escaping the fortress and accepting the Sith's offer of training, Osha took the weapon, now a Sith lightsaber, with her to an unknown oceanic planet.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Sol's lightsaber first appeared in "Lost / Found,"[11] the first episode of the first season of the live-action series The Acolyte, which premiered June 4, 2024.[12] The lightsaber was first previewed in a trailer shown exclusively at Celebration Europe[13] during the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase on April 7, 2023.[14] It was then shown publicly in the official trailers for the series, which were posted on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on March 19, 2024.[15][16] It was later specified as "Sol's lightsaber" in its personal Databank entry on StarWars.com,[1] which was posted by June 19, 2024.[17]
When choosing colors for the various lightsabers in the show, showrunner Leslye Headland picked each saber's color to be the most aesthetically pleasing, based on who they would fight. An exception was Sol's lightsaber, which Headland said was always going to be blue.[18]
