Late in 8 ABY, the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Stormhawk executed a hit-and-fade attack on the planet Saarn, wiping out New Republic personnel. The Stormhawk acted on the orders of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who studied the New Republic's reaction to his recent attacks on the Borderland Regions in order to determine their reaction patterns, and the Galactic Empire set up a listening post on Saarn.
