you don't understand the difference. as well as the developers of the f15. su34 sees the aircraft for 300 km and dimensions of 20 meters. but 150 km and the size of 3000 meters if - against the background of water. similarly, the su 35 sees 400 km but 170 if - against the background of the earth. f15 sees almost nothing against the background of the earth /water. similarly, Patriot air defense - only for the plain, not for the mountains.

therefore, the "peak-m" is 300 km but 150 for small ships — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.126.129.27 (talk) 09:45, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but the sentence is not clear in English and the details that were added dont make much sense. All we need is maximum range otherwise we would neeed to define every target and it is just to much technical detail. MilborneOne (talk) 08:57, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the text. and this difference is very important. in the air defense analogy, the Patriot Pak 3 is made as a system against missiles, specifically ballistic missiles. Patriot 1 did not initially have this capability. in the analogy, there are self-propelled artillery and self-propelled artillery, but with the ability to swim+airborne troops. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.126.129.27 (talk) 10:14, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure I see the relevance. MilborneOne (talk) 10:34, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Zvartnots Airport + Shirak Airport

[edit]

There's some edit warring at the pages for Zvartnots International Airport and Shirak Airport. I've raised a ticket at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring. As you are both a wikiadmin and also heavily involved in WP:AIRPORT, could I perhaps encourage you to take a look and see if this is something on which you can give an opinion ? (talk page stalker) I'm not so sure about this one. It's certainly similar, but Ryan historically can't keep himself from airline-crash articles and I don't see those here, plus this account was editing at the same time the last blocked Ryansock was active. The fact they jumped right in on a draft created by a globally-locked editor, though, may be telling... - The Bushranger One ping only 05:28, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, since the Editor Andrew Davidson did not inform you per WP:DEPROD I just want to let you know that he removed the PROD Template you placed of Chinook Display Team CommanderWaterford (talk) 23:44, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) They aren't required to give a notice or an explanation, though it is helpful and courteous. However, they'll have to do better than that at AfD, which they can't just remove, and a "Keep" with no explanation will just be ignored. BilCat (talk) 07:08, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have just added two company's product range to this category, is the intention to kill it because of the other category that includes Austro-Hungary? Please depopulate if so but there was no explanatory note on the category or talk page. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 17:17, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure whats going on, Austria is clearly not the same entity as austro-hungarian which most people relate to first world war aircraft not gliders etc. Not found the discussion yet. MilborneOne (talk) 18:35, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree. Thought I did see something about it recently but can't remember where, difficult to keep track sometimes.Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 19:55, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Found it, a glider category was flagged at WT:AIR last month, Austrian but not related to this civil aircraft category.Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 20:02, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that a single editor doesn't like it and has depopulated it again. Depopulating and slapping on a speedy tag isn't the right way to delete categories that have not been discussed (and need discussion). Austria and Austro-Hungary should be treated separately. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 07:54, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
it looks like the project templates have been changed on 21 May without discussion refer Template:Airnd MilborneOne (talk) 13:10, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Emptying categories out-of-process has been an ongoing problem at CFD and it's being done by veteran editors, not newbies. It usually only becomes evident when some categories show up on the daily empty category list. Since there is no permanent record of a category's contents, it can be a challenge to work backwards and figure out what has been removed from it. It seems to be mostly happening to categories related to a nation/nation-state, especially over the past two hundred years as borders have changed. Liz Read! Talk! 02:47, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: You bring up a good point here. It seems there is some confusion, even among experienced editors as to the procedure. So once a talk page discussion has concluded to eliminate some child categories as part of a reorganization, is it then okay to depopulate them and tag them for speedy or should this all be handled differently? I ask specifically because I am involved in just that right now at Category talk:Linux distributions. - Ahunt (talk) 13:34, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Related is an apparent recent change in the wiki software, I am now seeing 'diffs' in my watchlist when a category is removed (or presumably added?) to an article, the actual diff is not clickable but the article is blue highlighted. You have to be watching the category of course but it should reduce the emptying/speedy stealth route of category removal without discussion or notice. I can't find where this change was implemented but it's very useful. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 14:41, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed

[edit]

Hello! Can I ask you a favor if you can fixed the Rossiya Airlines, the last edit version of User:Edberezina. Thanks! Cornerstone2.0 (talk) 17:24, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You sent this article to AfD two years ago, where it was "kept". At that time I thought it was strictly WP:NOTNEWS and should have been deleted, but others disagreed then. It seems this week that a number of editors think it should be done away with through one or more odd means, however well-intentioned or not. Over time there has been no more information on the incident with which to expand the article and so, to me, it still seems like a merely curious news story and nothing more. We never found out who the person was or anything about his circumstances or even if he was granted asylum in Canada or deported as this is all protected information here in Canada, due to privacy laws. The article still seems totally non-encyclopedic to me. Do you think we should send it to a second AfD or just leave it? - Ahunt (talk) 14:44, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree it is not really noteworthy to keep and another AfD needs to be done. What happened here is that somebody who didnt like the article changed it to some junk copyrighted text not related to the article and then sent it to AfD saying it was a copyright violation! They didnt create the AfD properly so I had to do a tidy up. They also redirected the article which has earned them a disruption block. Whatever we think of the article there is a right and wrong way to get a community consensus either way ! MilborneOne (talk) 15:11, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw both of those happen. Thanks for reverting that. When the one editor tried to just redirect it, I reverted and indicated that he really couldn't overrule the last AfD and redirect it like that, especially to a new target article that was off-topic. Did you want to start a new AfD then or should I, since you started the last one? - Ahunt (talk) 15:37, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I dont mind but I am away for a few hours soon so if you have not got around to it I will do it later on. MilborneOne (talk) 15:40, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I am tied up here for a few hours - so we will see who gets there first! - Ahunt (talk) 16:02, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a reminder that the copyvio text needs to be removed from the article history. I've left a message on the Great Canadian Copyvio Guru User: Diannaa's talk page to request this. BilCat (talk) 20:50, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well I made the AfD nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Air Canada Flight 018 Stowaway incident, but I am not sure I did it right. Because the article title capitalization has changed since the last AfD, this one is not indicated as a second nomination. Does that need fixing? - Ahunt (talk) 22:45, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I don't know how. BilCat (talk) 23:01, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
One of the editors there commenting at least linked it to he last AfD, so that may suffice. - Ahunt (talk) 23:03, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Also, if kept, shouldn't "stowaway" in the title be lower case? BilCat (talk) 23:10, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking that too, not sure what happened there or who did that. - Ahunt (talk) 23:26, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well it looks like this AfD should wrap-up today and it looks like it will probably be kept again. It wasn't the intended aim, but at least the AfD had a positive effect on the article, which has been expanded. - Ahunt (talk) 21:33, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There does come a point were it was not worth the effort to argue about deletion despite the flimsy reasons to keep. I am still of the opinion that it has nothing to do with being a stowaway as they clearly had a ticket to travel so it more to do with fraud. MilborneOne (talk) 09:39, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. He had a ticket, so he was not a stowaway. Despite the addition of a large amount of mostly irrelevant text in an attempt to make the article more "fluffy", we still only have a person who came to Canada in a rubber mask and claimed asylum, for undisclosed reasons. He was one of tens of thousands of people who did that in 2010, many of whom used human smugglers too, just the rest didn't wear a mask. Anyway, in general, AfD discussions seem to favour keeping anything with a National Enquirer flavour, so it is little surprise that is the case here. - Ahunt (talk) 13:35, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, the debate got re-listed, so another week of pain. - Ahunt (talk) 13:45, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Appearance

[edit]

Please go to the All-time Olympic Games medal table page, sort by N° of participation at Summer Games then you will see that only four countries have participated at every Games under their names : France, Great Britain, Greece and Switzerland. It is not the case for Australia : they participate in 1908 and in 1912 under the name Australasia !

So it's totally not true to say than Australia have participated in every games under their name : and the claim made in the Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the page for Greece, France and Switzerland are not true...— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pindrice (talkcontribs)

Reason of making page

[edit]

Hi MilborneOne, reason why I had created the page Sterna Linhas Aéreas Flight 9302 is because the airline is noteworthy to mention. You see, had it been a huge airline with one aircraft loss is un-noteworthy. However, this airline only had one aircraft and that aircraft loss is not clearly mentioned on the airline page. The airline went out of business after the aircraft loss. However, I must mention that I did not mean to directly create the page. It should have been created as a draft such as the one I'm working on: Draft:USA Jet Airlines Flight 199. I'm really busy currently, that's why I'm unable to improve the page. That's all. Thanks! Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening Introduces me JGNTHA. I want to protest, why do you arbitrarily remove Citilink from the Boeing U3 Aircraft Code List. Even though it is clear that Citilink has a 737-5U3 cargo plane. Even though it's an ex-Garuda Commercial Plane, if Citilink has a Boeing Fleet Like 737 Or What, it means that the airline is included in the Boeing U3 List Code. — Preceding 05:31, 1 November 2021 (UTC) comment added by JGNTHA contribs) 14:21, 31 October 2021 (UTC) [reply]

I have removed it again - these codes only apply to new aircraft not second-hand. MilborneOne (talk) 18:57, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't be arbitrary in editing the list of Boeing U3, you are not Indonesian. Why do you even know more about the planes on the Boeing U3 list? It doesn't matter whether the plane is new or not. However, if the plane uses a Boeing codenamed U3, it means it must be included in the list. Citilink is a subsidiary of Garuda. So there's no harm in using Code and it's legit. Citilink Owns a Boeing 737-5U3F. This Aircraft Registration is PK-GGC. User:JGNTHA contribs 05:26, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:JGNTHA Wikipedia is an encyclopedia anybody can edit, you dont have to be Indonesian. I have no doubt that citilink have a 737 with a U3 code but that customer code was allocated by Boeing when the aircraft was built for Garuda. It tells them it has various options that Garuda had asked for. When the aircraft is sold the code does not change and still reflects the original customer. As far as I can tell Citilink have never bought any new aircraft from Boeing and certainly PK-GGC was bought by Garuda in 1997. MilborneOne (talk) 06:46, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from boosting an editor's ego by increasing the number and visibility of his edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris.Bristol (talkcontribs) 19:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the guidance in the link I provided ? also you may need to reel back the comments on other editors motives, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 12:02, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RAF Wing Commanders

[edit]

Not a category I created. Might be worth you starting a discussion for deletion of the cat if you don't see it as useful as it's a well populated cat Kingbird1 (talk) 13:13, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank I have nominated it for deletion as well as the Sqn Ldr cat at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 November 21. MilborneOne (talk) 13:23, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You might need to nominate the American equivalents as they fit together with these --Kingbird1 (talk) 13:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not bothered about the American ones as I dont understand them as well as the RAF, certainly the RAF ones are stupid, An AVM would be in the Air Commodore, Group Captain, Wing Commander and Squadron Leader categories clearly looks daft. Its also really hard to find anything as all these categories are diffused into smaller and smaller definitions. MilborneOne (talk) 14:35, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

FFA P-16

[edit]

Hi Michael, can you consider some semi-protection for FFA P-16? The sock farm of the banned Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FFA P-16 has returned to add contested information pushed that user. It's possible this is a meat puppet, as the IP is from England, but their English is still poor, as was the banned user's. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 21:56, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

[edit]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Two cents

[edit]

Hi there, over the past couple of years, users (mostly new users or IP's) have been adding "international" to the titles of Indian airports. I thought of coming up with some sort of rough guidelines which could be refined and gradually make their way to WP:AV and/or WP:IND. I'm not sure if someone else has come up with this in the past, but I believe its time we have them so that we can point to users why their edit was reverted. If you've got the time I'd like some feedback on this. Thanks! Bingobro (Chat) 15:32, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Happy First Edit Day!

A tag has been placed on Category:Proposed aircraft of Spain indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read!
