“The Man Who Made Nike Uncool” is out.

Nike is moving on from CEO John Donahoe less than a week after Bloomberg published its unflatteringly-titled profile of his four-year tenure.

Under Donahoe, Nike de-emphasized retail stores to chase direct sales, flooded the market with retros like the Panda Dunks, and put the RTFKT NFT shoe brand on the same level as the Swoosh and Jordan Jumpman.

Today’s announcement doesn’t include the RTFKT logo.

One of these logos doesn’t belong in this list, but Nike put it there anyway.

Apple Fifth Avenue is glowing, even if Siri won’t be.

Maybe Apple should have waited to do this until next month?

28 Years Later was reportedly filmed on the iPhone 15 Pro Max — which was supposed to be a secret.

According to Wired:

Principal filming for 28 Years Later wrapped at the end of August, and until now the production has kept under wraps the fact that the movie was shot with smartphones, with the film’s staff being asked to signed NDAs preventing the disclosure of this detail.

Flappy Bird’s new owners definitely have nothing to do with the game’s original creator.

The Flappy Bird Foundation posted a long statement to “clear the air,” but much of it was focused on how the foundation acquired the Flappy Bird trademark after Dong Nguyen abandoned the game. Nguyen has already said he is not involved with the revival.

The statement also doesn’t address the crypto concerns surrounding the project.

Walmart’s holding a rival fall Prime Day event.

The Walmart Holiday Deals event will last longer than Amazon’s two-day Prime Big Deal Days sale, kicking off on October 8th and running through October 13th. It’ll also be open to all, though paid Walmart Plus members will get early access.

Walmart says the deals will include tablets, consoles, and other gadgets from brands like Apple, Samsung, and PlayStation.

You can’t convince me otherwise: this cable is the coolest part of Sony’s 30th Anniversary PlayStations.

“Unfortunately sick as hell” describes the whole package, but I’d even buy this cable solo.

The 30th Anniversary PS5s come with a USB-C cable where one end looks like a PS1 controller connector.

How much water and energy does it take to write an email using ChatGPT ?

About as much water as a single-use bottle holds, the The Washington Post reports. The electricity it takes is about as much as 14 LED light bulbs might burn through in an hour.

These are rough estimates, but they come with helpful illustrations to show the environmental costs of operating data centers for new AI tools.

TL;DR on the DOJ’s ad tech antitrust trial against Google.

I’ve been going to this extremely wonky and jargon-y trial almost every day, and I joined Decoder to translate the highlights so far. The trial — which is only accessible in-person from an Alexandria, VA courtroom — is in its second week. Google is expected to start calling witnesses any day now, once the Justice Department wraps its chief case.

A quick hands-on comparison by The Verge’s action camera expert. It’s going to be hard to justify paying $50 more for the new GoPro flagship now that DJI’s rival is here.
