Simon Nordell was a 23rd century Human man, a Starfleet engineer assigned to the Federation starship USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk in the 2260s.

Biography[]

By 2268, Lieutenant Nordell had demonstrated himself to be one of Montgomery Scott's best engineers. Nordell had an argumentative, rocky relationship with security officer Leslie Lebrun. He enjoyed Cetian laliska, a pungent-smelling beverage.

In 2268, Scott was honored to be Nordell's best man at the couple's wedding. They were on friendly-enough terms that Scott pulled a prank at the wedding: he handed them a gaudy fake ring.

The day after the wedding was a long one for Nordell. Scott caught him sabotaging an alert panel in engineering as a joke to get back at Scott for the prank. He came home to vent his frustrations and unwind, leading to arguments and him sleeping on the couch. The next day, during a mission to Distrel, Lebrun was apparently killed, and he felt guilty for not having apologized to her.

Later, after Kirk, Scott, Hikaru Sulu, and Pavel Chekov had also apparently been killed, Nordell worked on an overloaded Stella Mudd android, attempting to locate and repair damaged circuits. She told him, "Marriage is when two people who don't get along try for the rest of their lives to change each other's behavior." Nordell hoped that was not the case. When Lebrun was found alive and returned to the ship, she and Nordell reunited in sickbay. When Leonard McCoy discharged her, they made up and left arm-in-arm. (TOS novel: Mudd in Your Eye)
