For other uses, see Io.

Io was a moon in orbit of the planet Jupiter, the fifth planet of the Sol star system, located in Sector 001 of the galaxy's Alpha and Beta Quadrants. (ST reference: Star Charts)

Features[]

Like the innermost large moon of Cherela, the tidal forces of the Jovian's gravity kneaded the moon's crust, turning Io into a volcanic hell. The intense magnetosphere conducted with the erupting gases, creating a plasma torus which the moon then plowed through. (TOS novel: The Face of the Unknown)

History[]

In 2269, the innermost large moon of Cherela, the elected homeworld of the First Federation's Web of Worlds, was reminiscent of Io. (TOS novel: The Face of the Unknown)

USS Progress

The USS Progress in 2369.

In 2369, the USS Progress was reassigned to the Earth-Io run. (SCE - What's Past eBook: Progress)

In the 2370s, Starfleet named the Luna-class starships after moons in the Sol system. The USS Io (NCC-80105), launched in 2379, was named for Jupiter's moon Io. The Amalthea, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa were also named after Jupiter's moons. (TTN novel: Taking Wing Luna Class Concept Notes)

ISS Voyager 2411

ISS Voyager above Io in 2411.

In 2411, Jupiter Station was positioned between Jupiter and Io during an attack by Terran Empire forces led by Captain Sylvia Tilly of the ISS Enterprise and Captain Kuumaarke of the ISS Reskava. (STO - Terran Gambit mission: "Iuppiter Iratus")

They betrayed Marshal Kathryn Janeway of the ISS Voyager, who had assembled her task force high above Io for a raid on Jupiter Station. (STO - Terran Gambit mission: "Red Shift")

Kelvin timeline[]

In the Kelvin timeline, Section 31 constructed the USS Vengeance in the Io Facility in orbit of the moon between 2258 and 2259. Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott infiltrated the drydock shortly before the launch of the Vengeance. He had learned the coordinates indirectly from Khan Noonien Singh. (TOS movie: Star Trek Into Darkness)
