Julio Medrano Awarded Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowship

Julio Medrano, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, was selected as a recipient of the Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowship 2009 predoctoral competition. The three-year fellowship is sponsored by the Ford Foundation and administered by the National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academics.

Students are selected for this prestigious award based upon their prior academic accomplishments and potential for future achievements as a scholar, researcher, and faculty member in an institution of higher education. Approximately 1200 predoctoral applications are reviewed by panels composed of highly qualified scientists, engineers, and humanities scholars from across the nation and only 60 predoctoral awards are available. This award marks the third Ford Foundation Diversity fellowship to College of Engineering doctoral students (Dorielle Price, 2006, Electrical Engineering; Brandon Henry, 2007, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering) within the past four years
