Tampers

Just a thought but in the Carillion article, rather than using a picure of a tamper in GTRM livery, why don't you use a picture of a tamper in Carillion livery (see Ballast tamper where you will find a good photo). That said I don't think the article justifies the use of two pictures of tampers as none of these contractors do rail maintenance any longer; so I think it is one or the other and I will leave it to you. Mineral superpowers

A mineralogical superpower is a state that has a monopoly on a valuable mineral resource like copper, nickel, gold or phosphorus, to the extent that an energy superpower has over energy sources, such as oil, gas, coal, oil shale and uranium. Australia has the world's largest Uranium reserves at 22%[2] and is the world's largest Coal exporter by short tonnes.[3]

Chile is the world's leading copper producer (30%), but the USA, Peru, Zambia, Indonesia and the People's Republic Of China also have major reserves.[4] 21 of the 28 largest copper mines in the world are not amenable to expansion.[5] Many large copper mines will be exhausted between 2010 and 2015.[5] [6][7][8] The Sudbury region of Ontario, Canada, produces about 30% of the world's supply of nickel, while Russia contains about 40% of the world's known resources at the Norilsk deposit in Siberia. Other major producers are the French colony of New Caledonia, France it‘s self, Australia, Cuba, and Indonesia. Both New Caledonia, Indonesia and China have sizable untapped reserves. Australia is an major producer of nickel and copper as well as being the world's leading exporter of uranium (22%)[9]. Both China, South Africa, Russia and the USA are also major producer of gold .[10].

A threat to end or the guarantee to supply these minerals could prove politically influential in the future, just like oil has done in the late 20th and in to the 21st century.

The Winter storms of 2009-2010.

The Winter storms of 2009–2010 profiles the major worldwide winter storms, including blizzards, ice storms, snowstorms, and other winter events. A winter storm is an event in which the dominant varieties of precipitation are forms that only occur at cold temperatures; such as snow, hail, sleet, or a rainstorm where ground temperatures are cold enough to allow ice to form (i.e. freezing rain). The time scope is between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. Very cold and/or snowy weather was reported across the Northern Hemisphere, with many severe cases being reported in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Poland, Finland, Russia, India, South Korea, China and Japan over the winter of 2009-2010. Even places that do not get more than an inch of snow on a single day, such as Texas, got up to five to ten inches and more overall.

As this occurred, unusually heavy rain hit Brazil[11], southern Bangladesh, Italy,[11] Haiti[12] and Argentina, while major flooding events and landslides hit Brazil, Peru and Uganda. A heat wave and/or unforeseen monsoon weather also hit parts of Australia.[11] Guam was hit by Super Typhoon Nida on November 29, 2009[13], and flooding and hailstorms hit southeastern Australia and Queensland in March 2010. [14]. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 10:38, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Articles in Wikipedia must be verifiable and encyclopedic. Content must be notable, encyclopedic and written from a neutral point of view.

Please read these articles – Wikipedia:NPOV_tutorial, Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Sources#Sources – before you edit more articles.

In the case of the article about Cropredy there is no citation or verification for your assertion that the festival attracted drunken yobs before the year 2000; nor any citation or verification that the position changed or improved thereafter. Crime and antisocial activity varies year-by-year at any festival. The Cropredy organisers and the Thames Valley Police do not make public any crime or disorder statistics. Please stick to verifiable facts when editing.

It has been assumed that you acted in good faith and no-one wants to bite newcomers. But despite several friendly offers of advice here (which you deleted) you are persisting with unsourced, unverified, inaccurate or non-encylclopedic edits.

Montage pictures

Hi, I notice you've added pictures to several railway station articles. Some of these, such as File:Islip station 12 2010.jpg are montages (two or more pictures joined as one) - but I think that they'd look better if the components were kept as individual images. First, they would be larger, and thus more informative; second, it would allow them to go in different places in the article; third, if a better-quality replacement of one of the component images became available, it would be a simple matter to replace just that one and preserve the others. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:02, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Thankyou for your very enterprising work on these images, but I do agree with RedRose64. Each individual image in a montage is too small to be appreciated, and clicking on the image is not enough help as it leads to an enlargement of the montage, not of an individual component image. Some Wikipedians are visually-impaired and will find montages even more unhelpful. The montages of four images are difficult enough, abut those with six or nine images are very hard on the eye. I respectfully sugest reverting to individual images, and creating a gallery at the foot of an article if desired.
Also, in some of your images the subject is very dark and the sky is almost white. Have you considered using a graduated filter to prevent this? Motacilla (talk) 01:25, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

The 'Credit crunch lunch' penomina.

The expression credit crunch lunch has been used during the Financial crisis of 2007-2008 (credit crunch) in regards to home made packed lunch that even the best paid City workers have started eating in order to save money in such a difficult period of financial crisis.

The expression has also emerged by the way pubs and cafes have started advertising their promotional offers, to encourage those people who are avoiding eating out in order to save money.

An article of The Guardian [7] analyses how the credit crunch has affected the life style of the British, mentioning how independent restaurants are struggling and discount retailers are thriving as a sign of a society that is trying to save as much as it can, even on food.

The world det crisis is going bonkers!

Credit rating agencies such as Standard & Poor's have been subject to criticism in the wake of large losses beginning in 2007 in the collateralized debt obligation (CDO) market that occurred despite being assigned top ratings by the CRAs.

Credit ratings of AAA (the highest rating available) were given to large portions of even the riskiest pools of loans. Investors, trusting the low risk profile that AAA implies, loaded up on these collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) that later became unsellable. Those that could be sold often took staggering losses. For instance, losses on $340.7 million worth of collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) issued by Credit Suisse Group added up to about $125 million, despite being rated AAA by Standard & Poor's.[10]

It is also worth mentioning that Standard & Poor's apparently failed to predict the bankruptcy of all the largest Icelandic banks and a weaker position of the Icelandic Government in 2008, a country that had a very high rating until its economy suddenly collapsed.

Companies pay Standard & Poor's to rate their debt issues. As a result, some critics have contended that Standard & Poor's is beholden to these issuers and that its ratings are not as objective as they should be.

In April 2009 Standard & Poor's called for "new faces" in the Irish Government, which was seen as interfering in the democratic process. In a subsequent statement they said they were "misunderstood."[11]

On the 27th of April 2010, the Greek debt rating was decreased to 'junk' status by Standard & Poor's amidst fears of default by the Greek Government.[12]. They and also cut Portugal's credit ratings by two notches to A, over concerns about Portugal‘s state debt and public finances on the 28th of April [13]. They also hinted at the general degrading of all the PIIGS nations' credit rating in the near future. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 16:11, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Cars

I notice you've been adding a bunch of images to Category:Cars. This is not correct, for two reasons: First, Category:Cars is only a disambiguation page; the actual category for articles about cars is Category:Automobiles. Secondly, images of cars should go in Category:Images of automobiles. —Paul A (talk) 02:32, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Intercity 225

Hello Snow, I notice that you've add copies of the File:Class 91 Peterborough - late 1980 s.jpg image to several articles, with captions stating that it is an Intercity 225 set. This is incorrect; it is a British Rail Class 91 locomotive, coupled to British Rail Mark 3 coaches. This is the origin of the eight British Rail Class 43 locomotives (six now used by Grand Central Railway) with buffers fitted that were used before delivery of the matching British Rail Mark 4 stock to make up the Intercity 225 sets.

As this occurred, unusually heavy rain hit Brazil[14], southern Bangladesh, Italy,[14] Haiti[15] and Argentina, while major flooding events and landslides hit Brazil, Peru and Uganda. A heat wave and/or unforeseen monsoon weather also hit parts of Australia.[14] Guam was hit by Super Typhoon Nida on November 29, 2009[16], and flooding and hailstorms hit southeastern Australia and Queensland in March 2010. Mineral superpowers.

A mineralogical superpower is a state that has a monopoly on a valuable mineral resource like copper, nickel, gold or phosphorus, to the extent that an energy superpower has over energy sources, such as oil, gas, coal, oil shale and uranium. Australia has the world's largest Uranium reserves at 22%[20] and is the world's largest Coal exporter by short tonnes.[21]

Chile is the world's leading copper producer (30%), but the USA, Peru, Zambia, Indonesia and the People's Republic Of China also have major reserves 21 of the 28 largest copper mines in the world are not amenable to expansion. Many large copper mines will be exhausted between 2010 and 2015. The Sudbury region of Ontario, Canada, produces about 30% of the world's supply of nickel, while Russia contains about 40% of the world's known resources at the Norilsk deposit in Siberia. Other major producers are the French colony of New Caledonia, France it‘s self, Australia, Cuba, and Indonesia. Both New Caledonia, Indonesia and China have sizable untapped reserves. Australia is an major producer of nickel and copper as well as being the world's leading exporter of uranium (22%)[22]. Both China, South Africa, Russia and the USA are also major producer of gold .[23].

A threat to end or the guarantee to supply these minerals could prove politically influential in the future, just like oil has done in the late 20th and in to the 21st century.

Northern Ierland's Lagan Valley exsplained!

The Lagan Valley is an area of Northern Ireland. It is between Belfast and Lisburn. The Lagan is a famous river that flows into Belfast Lough. For a section, the river forms part of the border between the counties of Antrim and Down.

It has a number of interesting features including a towpath which runs alongside the River Lagan. The towpath is popular with walkers, runners, cyclists, dog owners etc. It is a very scenic and peaceful area and is ideal for walking, cycling etc. The towpath begins in the Stranmillis area of south Belfast and runs all the way to Lisburn. The cycle route forms part of National Cycle Route 9.

It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The AONB was established in 1965 and the greater part of it lies within the Greater Belfast area.

It is also the name of a constituency in the British and Northern Irish House of Commons covering Lisburn and surrounding areas.

The parliamentary constituency has been a Unionist stronghold [9]. The current MP for the constituency is Jeffrey Donaldson of the Democratic Unionist Party who was first elected as an Ulster Unionist Party candidate in 1997, retaining the seat in 2001. Following his defection to the DUP he retained the seat in 2005.[24]

Image galleries

Before adding further image galleries, or additional pictures to existing galleries, please read WP:IG, particularly paragraph 2. I don't think our readers will be particularly interested in photos of station car parks, lamposts, ticket machines etc. unless they are historically, architecturally or technically significant. Some of them are badly captioned: for example, in Islip railway station#Gallery, the sixth image is A picture of Islip station - but this doesn't look much like a station to me - it could be any collection of trees near a fence. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:09, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

I fully support Redrose64 (talk). The images added to Conwy added nothing and were a visual diversion- most were not recognisable as being part of Conwy and none illustrated any part of the text. Please see Wikipedia guidance at WP:NOTREPOSITORY.

In the meantime I have reverted the additions to Conwy and will be very tempted to do the same at Islip Railway Station.  Velela  Velela Talk   11:55, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Page move

I don't understand your move and merge of Winter storms of 2006–2007 to Global storm activity of 2005-2007. Could you please explain your reasoning for this page title?? -RunningOnBrains(talk) 14:04, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

There was a trouble about the name 'winter' on Winter storms of 2006–2007 and claims that it was not globalize, was largly pro-northern hemispher and should report all big storms in all places.--Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 14:30, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

A separate page is now occurring for the other non winterty stuff.--Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 14:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I have nominated Non Winter storms of 2004–2007, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Non Winter storms of 2004–2007. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hacked account?

My security centre said my computer was unsuccessfully hacked by intruders while on Non Winter storms of 2004–2007 and Blizzard a couple of hours back. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 03:39, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

My security centre said my computer was not successful hacked, but my ISP keeps on cutting me off. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 03:52, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Security booted a virus out earlier today. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 10:07, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm upgrading security after I was disabled for several hours by a virus and spy ware. I am seriously considering quitting in the near future. The crap was in the Lincolnshire Independents, Hounslow Independent and Air conditioning pages.--Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 17:45, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Every time I tried to log on over the last hour, I was hit by ether virus and spy ware, or my ISP cut me off. I am assuming my account has been hacked and the pass word blown. It viruses when ever I try to singe in or a few minuets after. I quit for now, but will be back in a few months with a new identity, when I have VASTLY upgraded my security centre! --19:51, 21 June 2010 (UTC) {{compromised account}} --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 19:51, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Spelling and archive fixed.--86.29.74.139 (talk) 12:34, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm seeing if the integrity is safe and weather my securaty center did save the account. I will be loading some pictures, test editing and achiving my talk.--Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 00:37, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

The hacker has gone and I got no malware today. I am abandoning the account just in case and will start a new one linked to this page next month to be safe. --Snow storm in Eastern Asia (talk) 02:41, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Images

Hi. You might want to consider uploading your photos to Wikimedia Commons rather than Wikipedia, that way they can be used easily on any wikimedia project, and also it saves people the hassle of moving them over. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:09, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and as an aside, you might want to consider moving those wikiboxes and image galleries to your userpage or a subpage thereof, rather than talk page. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:11, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
