Vs the World

[edit]

I was wondering if we could add Blu under the winner section, but put it under a spin off category... A bit like the The X Factor (UK) spin off winners are set out like? 86.4.72.199 (talk) 08:37, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should keep the template specific to the series RuPaul's Drag Race UK ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:12, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But surely it could be argued that many others, that follow the same format shouldn't have it on, then? There is many that follow that format. UK vs the World was part of the main series, e.g. same judges, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.72.199 (talk) 14:16, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The template already has links to the spin-off and Blu. The purpose of this navbox is to aid user navigation, not necessarily to communicate every single detail about the franchise such as the succession of winners in spin-offs. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:32, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But that would contradict you saying it's nots not specific to the series, which it is. The reader is ideally only interested in finding the content/information that they want and this is wikipedias top priority, correct me if I am wrong. You are essentially trying keep it to what "looks good" to you as an editor and not the readers need as a user. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.72.199 (talk) 14:44, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I like templates to "look good". Let's see if any other editors weigh in and prefer to add a row specifically for vs+Blue. I'm open to adding a row in the future if there are other seasons of UK vs. the World (similar to how the RuPaul's Drag Race template currently has All Stars winners), but until then I think the single season/win is not worth displaying here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:59, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please see below proposed;
Right, you've proposed displaying UK vs the World and Blue twice each. Unnecessary. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Simple, removed.

For UKvs, the primary question is whether Jujubee (to pick a nonUK queen on UKvs) should be on the Template or not. If the answer is no, then I think the changes to the Template are OK.Naraht (talk) 15:49, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, no, it wouldn't go as far as adding the contestants from alternative franchises to the template, merely adding in that Blu is a winner of a spin off version of Drag Race UK. --86.4.72.199 (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This template still feels a bit confusing. I'm not entirely opposed, but I don't see how it simplifies navigation at the moment. Further, isn't "Vs the World" set to become kind of its own thing rotating between countries? I.e. the rumored "Canada vs. the World" that may or may not come out in the next year or two. If that's the case, then what happens to this template? Will each country's franchise have the Vs seasons also labelled as Spin-offs? Are they spin-offs of the respective countries they come from, or of All Stars? I feel like we should perhaps wait a few more months to see if/when the whole vs. thing will continue, but that's just my two cents. Tajaditas(talk) 07:09, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Although I see the argument from all points of view, including Vs the World being it's "own thing", but the point of the series; it is a "host country" from its own original series, featuring drag queens internationally, not to mention UK queens being the majority competitors from all nations. Also, in UK vs the World, there are several references where RuPaul labels the show as Drag Race UK, which would indicate the show being a Drag Race UK show. I'm sure when Canada vs the World airs, that will be the same... It's a spin off from it's own original series, using a "host country" and their regular judges.
FinLogger2017 (talk) 16:43, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. For now I think we should consider the 'vs' shows spin-offs and not "its own thing". Drag Race (franchise) needs to be updated so the vs shows are displayed in the spin-offs table. Right now "Global" is not a series... ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:54, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Totally agree. FinLogger2017 (talk) 21:31, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, that makes sense. Is there still a question left to vote on RE: the proposed table above? It looks good to me with Blu in the spin-off and not duplicated in the "other contestants" list below, as it was in the first iteration. Tajaditas(talk) 09:05, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am also fine with the alterations on the table above. FinLogger2017 (talk) 19:35, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! If you checked the discussion I had under WikiProject Drag Race. I created two samples, Sample #1 only adds the winner of the spin-off. Sample #2, is a separate template IF there is a second iteration for the spin-off. If there isn't no news about the second iteration, it is better to have Sample #1 replace the current template. — JuanGLP (talk) 19:07, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For me, there really is not a point in having sample 2 with there only being one season, and there is no evidence to suggest there will be subsequent season. Like I said above, I don't mind adding a winners column into the original navbox, but under "Spin off" instead of "Vs the World". Just my thoughts personally. --FinLogger2017 (talk) 18:09, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As long as there's only 1 season of vs, there's no need to have 1 or more rows dedicated to this spin-off, IMO. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:12, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer, since series two is confirmed and is set to premiere soon.. Should we discuss which sample should we? I believe Sample #1 would be the right one, since we had that whole debacle about the templates previously? 22:09, 5 January 2024 (UTC) — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 22:09, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is too confusing to display the regular season and vs. queens in the same template. If we're going to have a template about UK vs. the World, I suggest a standalone template. But, if we can only display series and winners, then there may not be enough links for a new template (per Template:RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars). You might want to consult with User:woodensuperman, who seems to have strong feelings about navboxes. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:14, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well obviously we wouldn't put the "vs. the World" contestants in this template. Simply we just put the seasons and winners, it's simple and we won't need a standalone template (until it gets lengthy). Check Sample #3. [Pinging @Woodensuperman] — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 22:28, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But, if the winner of series 2 is a queen who did not originally participate in RuPaul's Drag Race UK, I find it confusing to include their name in a template called "RuPaul's Drag Race UK". ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:31, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Really? I wouldn't be confused since there is the name "vs the World", and a link is provided for that spin-off. And if they are confused, they can simply click the name and the readers will find out. It ain't rocket science, it's Wikipedia. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 22:50, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My vote is to not mix UK and UK vs. the World, similar to how we've kept Template:RuPaul's Drag Race and Template:RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars separate. Currently, a UK vs. the World template would only link to the parent article, series 1, series 2, and possibly winner Blu H. So, for now, I suggest we hold off. I wonder if User:Woodensuperman would agree with creation of Template:RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World once a winner of series 2 has been named (since that'd be 5 links). ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:09, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I'd leave it as it is for now, with the vs the world seasons in the navbox, but not the winner. Once vs. the World has enough articles to pass the WP:NENAN threshold, then a unique navbox can be created. --woodensuperman 08:14, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Might be time to revisit this discussion. Thoughts on the creation of Template:RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World? We have the parent article, two series articles, and two winners. There's also the possibility of creating List of RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs. the World episodes. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:43, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
