Hello and thank you for reading this, The current sentence, describing the DSD " ...that Northern Ireland would be transferred to the Republic of Ireland from the United Kingdom only if a majority of its population was in favour of such a move..." is not an accurate description or paraphrase of the Declaration.

Respectfully, quite apart from the fact that it is not clear how one might 'transfer' a legal territory such as NI, the sentence suggests the ROI would/will incorporate NI which is again misleading as the essence of the agreement is to promote dialogue among two disparate traditions, and not as the sentence indicates, 'transfer one to the other'. The DSD indicates/d (see article text link) that legal responsibility would be devolved to representatives of the two traditions on the island of Ireland, indicating a legal transfer of executive power to the two.

For private reasons, I am reluctant to say any more or to offer alternative wording. Thank you.

Theological?

[edit]

The article claims the declaration addressed theological issues. What issues? David.Monniaux (talk) 13:30, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
