Lokshahi is a Marathi-language news channel based in India. It provides 24/7 coverage of regional and national news.

History

[edit]

Lokshahi was founded to serve the Marathi-speaking audience with news coverage. The channel has been noted for its reporting on political issues.[1] It has experienced several temporary suspensions due to controversial broadcasts.[2]

In 2023 and 2024, Lokshahi was temporarily suspended by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for alleged regulatory violations.[3] The channel challenged these suspensions in court, arguing that they infringed on press freedom.[4] As of the latest update, the court decision is still pending.[5]

Controversies

[edit]

In January 2024, Lokshahi was suspended after airing footage critical of a political figure.[6] This led to significant criticism from media organizations, including a condemnation by the Mumbai Press Club.[7]

Awards and Recognition

[edit]

Lokshahi has received recognition for its journalism, including awards for reporting.[8] The channel's coverage has been featured in a BBC News segment highlighting its regional news role.[9]
