Jessica Stewart is a Staff Editor and Digital Media Specialist for My Modern Met, as well as a curator and art historian. Since 2020, she is also one of the co-hosts of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. She earned her MA in Renaissance Studies from University College London and now lives in Rome, Italy. She cultivated expertise in street art which led to the purchase of her photographic archive by the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia in 2014. When she’s not spending time with her three dogs, she also manages the studio of a successful street artist. In 2013, she authored the book "Street Art Stories Roma" and most recently contributed to "Crossroads: A Glimpse Into the Life of Alice Pasquini." Astrophotographer Travels 3,000 Miles to Photograph Saturn’s Lunar Occultation

Lunar occultations are exciting events for any astrophotographer, as the Moon appears to pass in front of a celestial body. They're particularly thrilling when a planet is involved, and that was reason enough for astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy to travel nearly 3,000 miles. McCarthy flew all the way to Hawaii to get the best position for photographing the recent lunar occultation of Saturn. McCarthy didn't go just anywhere in Hawaii, but to Mauna Kea.

Giant ‘Crush Nazism’ Monument Outside Oslo Train Station Honors WWII Resistance Group

Outside Oslo's Eastern Railway Station (Østbanestasjonen) sits a glistening monument to Norway's most active World War II resistance group. The sculpture, created by Bjørn Melbye Gulliksen, was unveiled in 2015 and shows a shining hammer smashing a swastika.  Titled Knus nazismen (“Crush nazism”), the sculpture celebrates the efforts of the Osvald Group (Osvaldgruppen).

Startling Look at the Effects of Window Collisions Wins 2024 Bird Photographer of the Year Contest

A startling look at the after-effects of window collisions won animal photojournalist Patricia Seaton Homonylo the 2024 Bird Photographer of the Year contest. Her poignant photograph beat out more than 23,000 images that were submitted by photographers from around the world. Showing the “Bird Layout” event featuring over 4,000 birds that perished in Toronto due to window collisions, the image raises awareness about the manmade peril that our feathered friends face.
