Introduction

Over the years, many patent applications have caused people to entertain the idea that Samsung is secretly developing a smart ring. In 2023, leaks and rumors picked up, and in early 2024, during the year's first Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung teased its first-ever smart ring for the first time.

The wait finally ended on July 10, 2024, when the Galaxy Ring was officially launched and the release set for July 24, 2024. Finally, people could start buying the company's first “new” mobile device in several years, and join the smart ring revolution for themselves.

Design

Samsung's Galaxy Ring has a concave design and is made from Titanium, weighing 3g or less depending on the size chosen, which helps the device feel slimmer and makes it very comfortable to wear. It's available in 9 sizes, ranging from 5 to 13, in Titanium Black, Silver, and Gold colors.

All of the sensors are on the inside of the device so from a distance it doesn't look like a piece of sophisticated tech at all. There are no displays, no LED indicator lights, and nothing else that would make it look like anything other than a ring.

Specifications

The Galaxy Ring is meant to be a health tracking device that's worn 24/7. It provides accurate tracking of various metrics, such as sleep, heart rate, menstrual cycle, and more. It can also provide a Heart Rate Alert when the user has very elevated or very low heart rates and show live beats per minute as well. Other metrics that it can track include workouts and steps.

All of the data that it collects is then piped to Samsung Health where users can access the insights without requiring a subscription, a key distinction compared to other smart rings. Samsung Health uses AI to sort through the data and provide an Energy Score, which is an overview of the health profile, Wellness Tips as personalized fitness recommendations, and sleep coaching as well.

In addition, the Galaxy Ring will boasts a new Vitality Score feature that uses four factors to offer personalized health insights. The Vitality Score tracker is based on metrics including Activity, Resting Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability, and Sleep.

The battery life is about six days on sizes between 5 and 11 and about seven days on 12 through 13. It comes with a charging cases that holds about 1.5x the charge, more than enough to get you through a couple of weeks of use without needing to charge the case.

Price and Availability

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring at its July 10, 2024 Unpacked event in Paris, with the device being released on July 24, priced at $399.
