Legendary Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will sing with Shania Twain, Karol G, Chris Stapleton, and more on his new Duets album, arriving Oct. 25 via Decca Records/Sugar Music.

Sandra Hüller (a Best Actress nominee) and Christian Friedel, stars of Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest — nominated for Best Picture, Best International Picture, Director, Sound, and Adapted Screenplay — are familiar with Shakespeare’s famous verse from Hamlet: ”All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players …” That’s because both thespians have been playing the Danish prince on stages around Germany for years.
Due to Germany’s repertory system in city and state theaters, an actor can revisit an assortment of plays time after time over a number of years.
Friedel tells me that he first played the Dane in 2012. It’s a sort of rock star Hamlet performed with his band, Woods of Birnam. “It can take years until the piece is really finished,” he explains.
He adds that “It changes as you’re getting older,” an experience he feels with movies as well.

The debut film from Raha Amirfazli and Alireza Ghasemi is a refugee drama with a difference, both in terms of its setting and its timescale. The stream of films about the refugee experience on the fringes of Europe has continued this year with the likes of Io Capitano and The Green Border, which, like many before them, focus on the struggles of refugees to reach safe haven.
This triptych of stories - connected by an extended family - takes a different tack. It is set within Iran after migration has happened and bookended by the beginning and the end of the US invasion of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021, allowing the writer/directors to explore systemic injustices faced by those who have sought sanctuary in the country. Succession, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Beef, and The Bear were among the big winners at the 2024 Golden Globes.
Coming into the evening, Barbie and Succession led the charge with nine nominations apiece, but Succession ultimately fared better, winning four awards, including Best Television Series in the Drama category, best male actor (Kieran Culkin), best female actor (Sarah Snook), and best supporting male actor (Matthew Macfadyen). Barbie, meanwhile, took home two awards, including Best Original Song thanks to Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “What Was I Made For?” and — to no one’s surprise — the inaugural award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
Among the film nominees, Oppenheimer reigned supreme, winning a total of five awards, including including Best Motion Picture – Drama, best director (Christopher Nolan), best actor (Cillian Murphy), best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and best original score (Ludwig Göransson).

Roberto Benigni, whose film “Life Is Beautiful” won three Oscars in 1999, has come out of the woodwork to support Matteo Garrone’s Golden Globe-nominated “Io Capitano,” which is Italy’s current Oscar candidate for best international feature film.
The revered yet reclusive Italian actor/director, whose most recent big screen role is playing Geppetto in Matteo Garrone’s hit 2019 live-action adaptation of “Pinocchio,” is clearly a big fan of “Io Capitano” (the title translates to “Me Captain”). The movie narrates the Homeric journey of two young African men, Seydou and Moussa, who decide to leave Dakar to reach Europe.
Garrone’s immigration drama realistically depicts their plight through the pitfalls of the desert, the horrors of detention centers in Libya and the dangers of the sea. Variety critic Guy Lodge in his review called “Io Capitano” the director’s “most robust, purely satisfying filmmaking since Garrone’s international breakthrough with ‘Gomorrah’ 15 years ago.

This past spring, social media lit up around a very new kind of American Sweetheart: 30-year-old Ronald Gladden, a solar contractor who believed he was signing up for a documentary on the jury system and instead ended up being the adored lead presence of Amazon Freevee’s fish-out-of-water comedy “Jury Duty.” Gladden answered a Craigslist ad, the producers took a shine to him, and history was made.
“So, I wasn’t part of the Ronald process,” Emmy-nominated casting director Susie Farris told TheWrap. “Ronald is a real person, and I don’t cast reality. [Laughs] But you know, obviously, the crazy part about the show is that every single person except for one is an actor.”
And that’s what made “Jury Duty” one of the year’s most singular TV challenges: casting buoyant, quick-witted, versatile actors that the general public would not recognize to improvise against Gladden as his fellow jurors,...

If we assume that films, like people, can be called „half-Asian”, then „Perfect Days” could be placed in such category. Of course, it takes place in Japan. It seems to be based on Japanese stories, the characters are Japanese, all the actors are Japanese, and they speak in Japanese (not that there is a lot of talking at all). But you can probably also feel at various points that the film's director, cinematographer and the post-production crew were European. It is quite obviously a Tokyo Story, influenced by Yasujiro Ozu strongly. It triumphs as a love letter to Ozu, and generally to what is often described as a wonder of Japanese culture. They're so humble! It's also a must-see for anyone fascinated with Tokyo, maintaining the “man, I love this city” vibe basically throughout the whole thing. But there is a reason why a love letter is...

Can storytelling help save the planet? Netflix thinks so: The company worked with the team behind the United Nations’ COP26 international climate conference to curate a collection of sustainability stories on the streaming service.
The Netflix “Together for Our Planet” collection of 30 TV shows, films and documentaries includes real-life nature documentaries like “Our Planet” and Oscar-winner “My Octopus Teacher”; climate-science docs like “Breaking Boundaries”; dramas like Norwegian TV series “Ragnorak”; sustainability travelogue series “Down to Earth With Zac Efron”; and films including Bong Joon-ho’s pro-vegetarian fantasy “Okja” (pictured above) and Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”
To be sure, Netflix also sees an opportunity to incrementally boost its subscriber rolls as well as burnish its brand with the eco-friendly content initiative.
Netflix customers can browse the collection at this link. The company also is making episodes from original series “Our Planet” and “Explained,” as well as feature-length documentary “Chasing Coral,” available...

The 2021 Oscars were presented on Sunday night, April 25, and after such an unpredictable year, thousands of Gold Derby users actually did a pretty good job of predicting the winners. Our collective odds were correct in 18 out of 23 categories. That means our hive mind was only wrong five times. So let’s take a look at the races we got wrong, and check out the complete list of winners here.

That was a bit of a long engagement wasn’t it? In most years, the Oscars are a distant memory by mid-March, but here we are approaching the end of April, and only now are we learning who the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences really think is the best.
Oscars 2021 are done, and with them we realize the strange year that was 2020 is perhaps finally in the rearview. Still, it doesn’t mean that year will leave without a few bitter surprises. Likely more than a few folks were disappointed by the shocking final moment of the night when Anthony Hopkins upset the late Chadwick Boseman in the Best Actor category. Unusually, the award was even presented as the final of the evening, and we’ve unpacked some of the implications of that here.
However, it should be said Hopkins is devastating in The Father, and there are...

Leslie Odom Jr. gave one of the year’s most inspired performances as soul icon Sam Cooke in Regina King‘s directorial debut, “One Night in Miami.” The Amazon film concludes with Odom belting out a spine-tingling rendition of Cooke’s classic Civil Rights Movement anthem, “A Change is Gonna Come,” a tearful climax that puts the actor’s range of talents on full display. For his efforts, Odom has been nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Song.

Making Golden Globes history, Andra Day won the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture drama, for her indelible performance in the Hulu film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” Day’s win underlines the Globes’ pitiable record with representation, as she’s only the second Black woman ever to win this award, after Whoopi Goldberg did 35 years ago for “The Color Purple.”
In a tearful acceptance speech surrounded by her family and friends, Day thanked “the amazing, transformative, dynamic Billie Holiday, who just just transformed me with this role and with her presence and with her spirit.”
This is Day’s first acting nomination and win at the Globes, and she’s the first winner in this category for a movie that debuted on a streaming service. Day, who started her career as a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, was also nominated with Raphael Saadiq for best original song (“Tigress...

It’s been a good few years for Margaret Qualley. Breaking out in “The Leftovers,” she’s since caught the eye of Spike Jonze (“Kenzo World“), Quentin Tarantino (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood“), Netflix (“Io” opposite Anthony Mackie), FX (“Fosse/Verdon“), Tim Sutton (“Donnybrook“), Claire Denis and has amassed a nice little career for herself that has come close to peaking yet.

The buzz may be steadily building for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier following the recent debut of a fantastic first trailer, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe series isn’t even the first streaming exclusive that stars Anthony Mackie as a military veteran sporting advanced technology forced to team up with a reluctant partner to unravel a conspiracy and stop the bad guys to arrive this year.
That honor goes to Netflix’s Outside the Wire, which drops on the platform next Friday, coincidentally the same day the McU finally returns to our screens with WandaVision. Of course, the actor is no stranger to sci-fi on the streaming service, having previously appeared in the forgotten Io, guest starred in a season 5 episode of Black Mirror and replaced Joel Kinnaman for the second and final run of Altered Carbon, but his latest looks like a much more straightforward actioner.

'Outside the Wire' teaser trailer has been released.
Netflix dropped the official teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action flick 'Outside the Wire' starring Marvel Cinematic Universe alum Anthony Mackie as an android super-soldier.
Set in the near future, the film centers around a disgraced drone pilot, played by co-star Damson Idris, who’s been sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an android officer (Mackie), who is tasked to locate a deadly doomsday device before the insurgents do, per Deadline.
In addition to Idris and Mackie, 'Outside the Wire' also features Enzo Cilenti as 'Miller', Emily Beecham as 'Sofiya', Michael Kelly as 'Eckhart', and Pilou Asbæk as 'Trask'.
The trailer seems visually engaging and is full of action-packed battle sequences even though the story sounds familiar.

Are you ready for some more stealthy murders? Hitman 3 could be on the way!
It sounds like development could be soon to start on Hitman 3, the third game in a trilogy that began with Hitman in 2016 and continued last year with Hitman 2. At the very least, it's clear that the developers at Io Interactive have started talking about ideas for the trigger-happy threequel.
This little nugget of news stems from a documentary video on YouTube, which was hosted and edited by Danny O'Dwyer from NoClip. In the doc, Io Interactive staff talk a lot about the Hitman franchise, and O'Dwyer seems to have picked up some insider knowledge while making the video. O'Dwyer states in the video that the team at Io Interactive is "working on new Hitman content, and looking ahead to the third Hitman game.” There's been no official confirmation of a third game...

Sounds like Olympics coverage, doesn’t it? Okay, let’s start the Olympics…I me…you know what I meant.
Best Promo:
The Master Of Hardcore Has Returned (Evolve) – Paul Heyman cut a juggernaut of a promo where he spoke to the people at the Evolve Anniversary show about his legacy in Extreme Championship Wrestling and the legacy of Evolve itself. This was the rare time where he spoke out of character and was seen as a sympathetic person.
Best Moment:
Io Shirai Is Bad To The Bone (WWE) – On Nxt, Io debuted the aspects of her new life as a villain and did so in stark,...

Can you shape the future by imagining and shaping it in to a story? It seems like a far fetched idea on the face of it but when you stop and think for a moment, how many things did Gene Rodenberry dream up for Star Trek that are reality now? Our communications technology has caught up in the years since, smart phones are not all that far off from being a tricorder, and what is 3D printing if not a preliminary version of the replicator? Star Trek dreamt a version of the future, they made it entertaining, and the generation that dreamed along with the Star Trek storytellers then went out and made it happen. And that's exactly what the forces behind Red Bull Futur/io...
