Jim Wynorski is a legend in the B-movie world, having racked up over 100 directing credits over the course of his 40+ years of working in the entertainment industry. Among those credits are Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, The Return of Swamp Thing, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Ghoulies IV, Demolition High, Piranhaconda, Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, Attack of the 50 Foot CamGirl, and Murderbot – so it’s clear to see why Wynorski was the subject of a documentary back in 2009. The documentary is called Popatopolis, and the folks at Terror Vision have just brought it to Blu-ray for the first time ever! Copies can be ordered at This Link.
Directed by Clay Westervelt, Popatopolis has the following synopsis: Jim Wynorski was the first to cast Traci Lords in mainstream cinema. He directed Heather Locklear in The Return of Swamp Thing. He discovered Jennifer Love Hewitt. Now, the man behind The Bare Wench Project...

The killer robots of Westworld mixed with the slasher format of a Friday the 13th movie added up to producer Roger Corman’s 1986 cult horror Chopping Mall, which boasted the tagline ‘Where shopping can cost you an arm and a leg.’ Chopping Mall director Jim Wynorski went on to produce and direct a series of porn spin-offs like The Bare Wench Project and The Witches of Breastwick; often working under numerous pseudonyms including H.R. Blueberry and Salvadore Ross. Wynorski was not mentioned in the Variety report of producer and filmmaker Robert Hall of Dry County Entertainment announcing his plans for the Chopping Mall remake, although one can hope for a cameo by the exploitation veteran.

Here’s the trailer for the new documentary Popatopolis (which is available on the film’s website Here) which chronicles the life, career and methods of legendary movie shlockmesiter Jim Wynorski who’s made such classics as The Witches of Breastwick, The Bare Wench project and Chopping Mall. He claims that he can do 100 set-ups a day and shoot an entire film in 3 days. And he keeps to a basic, simple recipe for all his films: “A big chase and a big chest”. Watch him in action…...

If you're not a hardcore fan of B-movies, the name Jim Wynorksi probably doesn't mean much to you -- but if you've ever cruised by Cinemax late at night and seen something like The Bare Wench Project, Hard to Die, the Not of this Earth remake (starring Traci Lords in her first mainstream film role), or Chopping Mall, then you're familiar with his work.
Wynorski has spent a quarter of a century plying his trade in the B-movie minefield, refining his craft and making films filled with busty babes and a low-budget Diy aesthetic. His shoots are legendary, with reports of him filming 100 set-ups per day (a typical Hollywood director does 20 ... ). His filmmaking philosophy is simple, but has served him well -- "A big chase and a big chest." -- and his penchant for filming women topless led to one of his many pseudonyms -- Tom Popatopalous.
Playing off that...

I often find myself equating narrative porn with the Saw film franchise. It’s cute that they try to go for some sort of story but, ultimately, all I really want to see are the scenes where bodily fluids are spurting across the room. If I’m ever opting to watch one of these features, I do so with a very specific agenda in mind and that agenda is not aided by the contemptibly tedious performances of failed models and sitcom actors whose idea of fine drama includes raising an eyebrow after each line of dialog. Thankfully however, this is not always the case with pornography that spoofs popular film and television. Such porn parodies often tend to go more for laughs than loads (tongue and cheek hit Playmate Of The Apes comes to mind). So, when I heard Hustler Video had produced a pornographic parody of Wes Craven’s...

Fitting that this film be announced during Breast Cancer Awareness Month because if there is one man who is keenly aware of breasts, it would be Jim Wynorski. Having given us such horror-inspired softcore sex spoofs as The Witches of Breastwick, The Bare Wench Project, The Breastford Wives, and Cleavagefield, Wynorski is now setting his sights on a current horror hit with Para-Knockers Activity.
Yes. Para-Knockers Activity. There will definitely be bumps in the night - great big bumps that come in pairs. There will also be things that go hump in the night. Expect a whole lot of activity going on in that bedroom in Wynorksi's version, and some of it might even be paranormal.
Wynorski tells me he plans to follow Paranormal Activity beat-by-beat and is still "working out the kinks" (as well as adding a bit of kink, if you catch my drift). He'll have to hurry...

Cloverfield (review) remains one the most divisive films of 2008. Some loved it. Others hated it. But I think we can all agree while there were plenty of boobs on the screen (the characters, I mean), they weren't the sort of boobs we'd have preferred. Cleavagefield looks to correct that jiggly oversight.
Jim Wynorski has spent the bulk of his 25-year b-moviemaking career giving us all manner of horror movies, monster movies, action films, kiddy flicks, and erotic thrillers, everything from Chopping Mall to Return of Swamp Thing to Deathstalker II to Munchie to Point of Seduction: Body Chemistry III and then on. He also really loves breasts. More specifically, he really loves tongue-in-cheek parodies loaded up with top-heavy women in varying degrees of undress. Or have you not seen The Breastford Wives, The Witches of Breastwick, and The Bare Wench Project and so on? Now comes Cleavagefield.
