Odessa A’zion (Fresh Kills) is the newest addition to the cast of Marty Supreme, A24’s new film directed by Josh Safdie.
No word on the role to be played by A’zion. She joins a pretty electic ensemble led by Timothée Chalamet, which will also include Gwyneth Paltrow and musician Tyler, The Creator. Other new additions announced today include magician Penn Jillette, Shark Tank panelist and entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary (a.k.a Mr. Wonderful) and filmmaker Abel Ferrara.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the pic has been reported as being loosely inspired by pro ping pong player Marty Reisman. At the same time, sources close to the production stress that it’s a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic.
Safdie and Ronald Bronstein penned the script and will produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24. Production is set to kick off this fall.

For a film co-directed by its subject’s husband, David Furnish, Elton John: Never Too Late, while always entertaining, feels curiously impersonal and lacking in intimacy. If you want to revisit the glory days of John’s career, when he released an astonishing 13 albums in the five-year span of 1970-75, seven of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, the Disney+ doc is a goldmine of exhilarating concert footage, interview clips and photographs that reveal John both in high-energy performance mode and low-spirited solitude. Fans will eat it up. But the contemporary perspective of a parallel track in which he prepares to play a farewell show is anemic.
That 2022 concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles marked the end of John’s 50 years of touring in North America. It also represented a full-circle trajectory from his legendary 1975 show at the same venue in front of 110,000 people (sporting a Bob Mackie...

Near the end of R.J. Cutler and David Furnish’s documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” John says, “It did take me 43 years to learn how to function as a human being rather than a rockstar.”
However, the film, which premiered in the Gala section of the Toronto International Film Festival, is far more interested in the rockstar part of John’s life than it is in the human being portion. Look, it makes sense, the glittering glamor of superstardom is inherently more attractive than the day-to-day monotony of just trying to get by. Still, with the access this doc has — Furnish is, after all, John’s husband — it feels like a squandered opportunity.
At its outset, “Never Too Late” sets up an intriguing structure. It is going to document John as he prepares for the final stop on his farewell tour: Dodger Stadium, the venue that was the site of his incredibly famous 1975 outing,...

When Robbie Williams told an interviewer that he felt like a performing monkey, he didn’t mean it literally. But that’s exactly how “The Greatest Showman” director Michael Gracey interprets the remark in “Better Man,” an off-the-wall musical biopic that surely would have seemed banal — as opposed to downright bananas — had it featured a flesh-and-blood actor in the Robbie Williams role.
Gracey takes audiences through all the expected beats of Williams’ career, from his breakthrough as a member of Take That to his record-breaking solo concert at Knebworth, but does so with a CG chimpanzee standing in for the Britpop bad boy. Against all odds, that gimmick works, distinguishing the project from so many other cookie-cutter pop-star hagiographies. If you want to fawn over this boy-band backup singer-turned-solo superstar for four hours, check out the “Robbie Williams” doc series on Netflix. But if you want to see a chimp doing coke with Oasis,...

MCU Rumor Round-Up: Power Pack Series; Taron Egerton Role; Future Plans For The Thunderbolts, & More
The news cycle may have levelled out a little over the past couple of weeks following San Diego Comic-Con and D23, but we do have a round-up of some Marvel Cinematic Universe-related rumors currently circulating online to bring us into the weekend.
First up, Daniel Richtman is reporting that the Thunderbolts* team will be a part of both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The latter wouldn't exactly be a major surprise, but we weren't expecting to see Yelena, Bucky, "Bob" and the rest of the gang join the battle against Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.
The Sdcc trailer for Thunderbolts* (we're still not sure what's going on with that asterisk) recently leaked online, and is surprisingly still up (check it out here).
Richtman has also heard that an animated Power Pack Disney+ series is in development at Marvel Studios. We've been hearing rumblings about some kind of Power...

Deadpool & Wolverine clawed its way into theaters last week and it's already one of the biggest hits of 2024. This pairing has proven to be a huge win for Marvel Studios at a time when the Multiverse Saga hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders.

Deadpool & Wolverine brought Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine/Logan. After the 2017 movie Logan, the actor had taken off his adamantium claws and hung up his superhero suit. But now, a few years down the line, he is ready to get back into the groove and slash through his enemies (and a few friends). I mean, there is no way he isn’t taking his claws through the mouthy merc.

From Daniel Radcliffe to Taron Egerton to Henry Cavill, a lot of names popped up. But none ever came close to confirmation, and now we already have Jackman back. More than anything, with Jonathan Majors out of the scene, there appeared a significant buzz surrounding the possibility of Colman Domingo stepping into the role of Kang the Conqueror.

Whoever plays the role, it would be wise if the franchise rebooted in period costume – so that 007’s sexism and toxic masculinity seem less anachronistic
Who should be the next James Bond? Book-makers seem to think it might be Jonathan Bailey, of Bridgerton fame, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Norton, Taron Egerton, Leo Woodall (One Day) and The Gentlemen’s Theo James are all still in the running. It’s possible to imagine any of them quizzically raising an eyebrow while drinking retro cocktails and romancing impossibly gorgeous women. But is that honestly what we want to see when the long-running spy saga eventually returns to the big screen?
The most recent 007, played by Daniel Craig, always felt like he was one small slip away from falling down a rightwing rabbit hole. He was arrogant, self-righteous and self-pitying, and if it weren’t for the excellent writing and Craig’s wonderfully nuanced performance,...

Elton John’s long time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin is to be the subject of a new feature length documentary, here are the details.
From their first hit Your Song to a string of classic albums and singles like Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I’m Still Standing and many, many more, Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s partnership had led to them being one of the most prolific, successful and celebrated songwriting duos in the history of popular music.
They have been showered with every songwriting and music award under the sun, and in 2019 their friendship was wonderfully brought to the big screen in Rocketman, courtesy of director Dexter Fletcher, writer Lee Hall and the wonderful performances of Taron Egerton as John and Jamie Bell as Taupin. Last year, Taupin released his memoir Scattershot, which quickly became a bestseller.

Hugh Jackman "retired" as Wolverine after James Mangold's Logan, but the actor was convinced to reprise the role for a team-up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth in next month's Deadpool and Wolverine.
We don't know if Jackman will stay on as the iconic clawed mutant after the R-rated threequel, but rumors persist that he will return for at least one more movie (most likely Avengers: Secret Wars). It's always possible that the Aussie actor will stick around as the McU's Wolverine going forward, but we are more likely to see a younger actor step into the role down the line.
We're not sure if Marvel Studios has anyone in mind, but several actors have emerged as fan-favorite picks, including Kingsman and Rocket Man star Taron Egerton - who also happens to be the current bookies' favorite.
Here's the full list with betting odds via Sportscasting.com.

While Kevin Hart’s action is taking Prime Video’s global top by storm, now dominating in it, the movie is in fact not as good as this hype implies. Die Hart 2: Die Harter is panned for being extremely generic and even a pale copy of all genre’s staples.
Thus, there is a need to satisfy people’s interest in good old action comedy flicks, with 5 of them being enlisted here. They are all must-watches for a good evening chill.
1. Tropic Thunder (2008)
This star-studded hilarious roller coaster of a movie seems to be the main inspiration for Die Hart, but it’s done much better. Ben Stiller’s brilliant film focuses on a group of actors during their attempt to make a Vietnam War film that turns into a failure.

Could Michael B. Jordan be out as the hero of Olympus? Could a Kingsman alumni be scooping up the role instead?
In a recent discussion on Disney rumors, The DisInsider‘s Skyler Shuler and Boardwalk Times‘ Zach Perilstein had some exciting news regarding the casting of upcoming movies. We’ve known for sometime that both actors were being eyed by Disney for the lead, but something may have recently changed.
When asked about the “top choices” for the role of the Greek hero and son of Zeus, Shuler had the following to say:
“Last I heard, Egerton was high on Disney’s “wishlist” as is Austin Butler, Jordan’s was not mentioned to me in my recent discussion with a source.“
That’s not much to go on. I’m not saying the “insider” info isn’t solid, but the longer Disney waits to pull the trigger, the more scheduling...

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

It's rare to watch an actor's star rise in real-time, but that is precisely what is happening with Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actress has nary a single project in her resume that wasn't loved by critics and audiences alike, save for a big-budget script or two.
With barely an entire decade under her belt, Anya Taylor-Joy already has thirty-nine nominations, including fifteen wins, three of which are a Golden Globe, a Critic's Choice Aware, and a Screen Actor's Guild award.
Not too bad, considering she's not even thirty yet. She's made some significant moves and has quickly solidified herself as one of Hollywood's most talented young actors.
From protecting the Mushroom Kingdom to questionable fine dining, Anya Taylor-Joy has embarked on various roles. Whether it's just her voice or a full view of her stealing every scene with her piercing gaze, the actress has the skill of someone with decades of experience.

Tobias Menzies has become one of our most reliably excellent actors of late. Classically trained, he had an extensive theatre career in his native England during the noughties and early 2010s before he rose to prominence with roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Outlander.”
Menzies’ profile then increased further thanks to his lauded portrayal of Prince Phillip in “The Crown” and his stock has again risen thanks to his role as another major historical figure in Apple TV’s “Manhunt.” The acclaimed limited series follows the death of President Abraham Lincoln (played by Hamish Linklater) and the subsequent 12-day manhunt for assassin John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle).
Menzies stars as Edwin Stanton, the Secretary of State and personal friend of Lincoln who headed up the hunt for Booth. Menzies proves himself capable of carrying this compelling show entirely on his own. His complex, gruff portrayal of Stanton is what makes the series soar,...
