Some movies transport you from your dreary, everyday existence into a fascinating world of excitement and wonder. And then there are films like “Zero Contact,” which make you wish you were taking out the cat litter or regrouting the bathroom tiles instead of watching it.
“Zero Contact” stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Finley Hart, a billionaire technology guru who, at the start of the film, has already died and left his mysterious final project, “The Quantinuum Initiative,” unfinished.
After his death, a group of people directly connected to Finley are summoned to a mysterious video chat, where they are told to input their secret codes and activate the Quantinuum Initiative. It’s a process that should take all of 45 seconds, but they have an hour to do it, because first they have to dump a metric ton of exposition, debate each other’s motives and get picked off by a...

The mild initial curiosity stirred by Zoom-shot movies died quickly, because so few of them were watchable, and because filmmakers quickly found workarounds to create more fluid entertainments while still observing Covid precautionary measures. Thus “Zero Contact” arrives as a novelty that’s already more than worn out its welcome, aiming for dubious additional distinction as “the world’s first star-powered feature film Nft.” (It was released in that form last September — whether anyone actually purchased it as such is unknown.)
We’ll just gingerly step around that factoid, as the aptly named “Zero Contact” has plenty of more tangible ways in which it is a steaming pile of nada. Producer turned first-time director Rick Dugdale and screenwriter Cam Cannon’s would-be thriller has five globally-scattered protagonists yelling at their screens during a conference call in which the fate of all humanity supposedly hangs in the balance from some murky high-tech threat.

Zero Contact stars Chris Brochu (“The Vampire Diaries”), Aleks Paunovic (“Snowpiercer”) and Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs). The film marks the directorial debut of Rick Dugdale, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Cam Cannon (Deadlock).
Here’s the trailer:
Starring Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), this high-tech thriller chillingly reimagines our isolated, virtual world. Hopkins plays Finley Hart, the eccentric genius behind a global data-mining program. Upon his death, five remote agents — including Finley’s son — are contacted by a mysterious A.I. entity to reactivate the initiative, which may enable time travel. As sinister events occur at each of the agents’ homes, they must decide whether entering their passwords will save the world…or destroy it.

Updated with trailer and launch date. The trailer for Zero Contact, a film starring Anthony Hopkins that will premiere via a new non-fungible token platform Vuele.
In addition to the trailer (watch it above), Vuele said it will premiere the film, which follows Hopkins’ Oscar win last spring for The Father, via several Nft “drops” beginning September 24. The tagline of the trailer describes Zero Contact as “the world’s first feature film Nft event,” though the space has drawn a crush of interest from a range of film and entertainment players lately.
Chris Brochu has also been announced as part of the film’s cast.
Previously:
Enderby Entertainment’s pandemic pic Zero Contact (formerly called 92) with Anthony Hopkins will premiere on new Nft platform Vuele later this summer, possibly the first time a feature-length film — versus, say, a basketball highlight clip — is offered for sale as a so-called non-fungible token.

“Zero Contact” was virtually produced in 17 territories during the Covid-19 pandemic last year. The thriller follows five characters based all over the world who are only connected by their devotion to the late tech titan Finley Hart (Hopkins). Hannibal Classics and Patriot Pictures have unveiled the first international trailer to the Nicolas Cage-led WW2 disaster tale "USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage". Mario Van Peebles helms from a script by Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro.
Cage plays Capt. Charles Butler McVay, whose ship was torpedoed in the South Pacific in July of 1945 after delivering parts for the first atomic bombs.
Without an escort and not reported missing until four days later, only 317 of the 1,197 crewmen aboard survived as the rest either went down with the ship or died from exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning or shark attacks. McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later.

Action director John McTiernan's trouble with the law may soon be ending (read all about it here) which means he'll soon be able to get back to work. And earlier this year, his first post-prison project "Red Squad" made some headlines, but not much has been heard since. But if all goes well, it looks like he's found a leading man. THR reports that Nicolas Cage (of course) is attached to "Red Squad," penned by Cam Cannon and Jorge Suarez, about a band of mercenaries who face off against a drug lord in a Mexican border town. Cool beans, right? Well, not so fast. More legal troubles including foreclosure and bankruptcy could complicate things as that matter still has to go before the courts, so don't cross your fingers just yet. (We don't know all the legal mumbo jumbo, but hit the trade for all the details). And the...

After serving 12 months in prison due to his involvement in the Anthony Pellicano wiretapping scandal – in which he lied to an FBI agent about his history with Pellicano - Die Hard helmer John McTiernan is finally ready to jump back into filmmaking. Though the bankrupt director is still struggling to recover from the prison stint, word is that his DEA thriller Red Squad is gearing up to shoot soon, with Nicolas Cage attached to star.
Apparently, McTiernan is under the gun to get moving on Red Squad and other projects, so that he can fight foreclosure on his ranch by proving in an evidentiary hearing on July 8th that he’ll soon be able to pay off bank loans with money from directing. In the film, Cage will play “a former DEA agent with a rogue streak.” The story focuses on the agent and his select team of mercenaries, who...

Man, I remember the last time I wrote about director John McTiernan — back in 2010, when he was going to federal prison for illegally wiretapping a producer on the Godawful “Rollerball” remake. It was pretty big news, especially because McTiernan is responsible for some really awesome action movies, from a pair of “Die Hard” flicks (including the original), “The Hunt For Red October,” and “Predator.” He also directed the aforementioned “Rollerball,” but hey, no one’s perfect. Well, McTiernan has served his time and is due out of the federal pen later this month, and he didn’t waste a whole lot of time landing a directing gig. The director, whose last movie was the military thriller “Basic” in 2003, has signed on to direct the heist thriller “Red Squad” for Hannibal Classics. Written by Cam Cannon and Jorge Suarez, “Red Squad” would follow “a former DEA agent with a rogue streak...

It's a full decade since Die Hard and Predator director John McTiernan has had a film in production. Protracted legal shenanigans and a twelve-month jail sentence stemming from the Anthony Pellicano wire-tapping scandal enforced his disappearance from the Hollywood radar. But with all that finally behind him, he's about to make his comeback. Variety reports that McTiernan has signed up to helm the action thriller Red Squad. Production company Hannibal Classics (along with Patriot Pictures) is putting up the money, and Hannibal's Cam Cannon wrote the screenplay and will produce. If you don't know the details and wondered where he'd gone, McTiernan was basically collateral damage in the Anthony Pellicano affair. Pellicano was a private investigator and expert in "forensic surveillance", much used in Hollywood circles, particularly in divorce settlements and the like. A chance discovery by the FBI discovered years worth of illegal phone-tapping, and Pellicano was prosecuted for...

Die Hard director John McTiernan has lined up his first film following his 12-month prison sentence, as Variety reports that he’ll helm the DEA thriller Red Squad. Penned by Cam Cannon and Jorge Suarez, the plot will center on a “former DEA agent with a rogue streak and his select team of mercenaries who descend upon a Mexican border town to neutralize a drug lord.” Sure, it sounds a bit generic but seeing as McTiernan has more than proven himself in the genre, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.
Of course, by now most people are familiar with the director’s story, and how he served a year in prison for lying to a federal officer. It led to Hollywood essentially shunning him and most of the projects that he was developing at the time getting abandoned, with several producers even going so far as to file lawsuits.

It’s been a rough few years for John McTiernan, the director who commonly blurs the line between craftsman and artist thanks to his genre-defining work on films like “Die Hard” and “Predator.” Thankfully, things seem to be turning around for the filmmaker, as Variety is reporting that McTiernan has lined up his first gig following his 12-month prison sentence (tangentially tied to the Anthony Pellicano wiretapping scandal that rocked Hollywood a few years ago): a nifty-sounding DEA thriller from Hannibal Classics entitled “Red Squad.” It will be good to have him back. The trade describes the script, which was written by Cam Cannon (who is also producing) and Jorge Suarez, as centering on “a former DEA agent with a rogue streak and his select team of mercenaries who descend upon a Mexican border town to neutralize a drug lord.” While this may sound like a typical action vehicle,...

Mario Van Peebles will get behind the camera again to direct the action-drama USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage for Hannibal Pictures. The actor/writer/director/producer will direct from a script penned by Hannibal’s Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro, which tells the true story of the ship in the title that was sunk in the South Pacific in July 1945, after delivering parts for the first atomic bomb. Of over 1,100 crewmen on board, roughly 300 went died immediately, while the rest faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and even shark attacks while they waited for assistance. In the end, a total of 317 sailors survived. Variety says that the project, which has...

Hannibal Classics is developing "U.S.S Indianapolis: Men of Courage", a $30 million "action-oriented homage" about the crew of the infamous ship which was torpedoed by a Japanese sub, with hundreds of sailors dying in the shark infested waters while they were adrift and awaiting rescue.
Just yesterday came word that Warners is moving forward with their own film about not just that story but the unjust court martial and eventual exoneration of the ship's captain, Charles McVay, thanks to a school kid's investigations into the incident.
Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro penned the completed script of the Hannibal film which they say will not deal with the consequences after the incident or McVay's fate. Rather it's a "testament" to the crew of the ship and "their will to survive in the face of certain death" they tell Variety.
