Round The Horne is touring around the UK. We went. We laughed. A lot.
New Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham
2017 sees another run of the Round The Horne 50th anniversary tour by the Apollo Theatre Company, where the classic Radio 4 show is brought to life by a brilliantly authentic cast of voice actors.
If you've never heard Round The Horne, you're missing a staple of British comedy. The show ran from 1965-1968, and pushed the boundaries of acceptable humour with its blend of double entendres, camp comedy and general silliness.
The staple cast included Kenneth Horne, Betty Marsden, Hugh Paddick, Kenneth Williams, and announcer Douglas Smith. Smith's involvement is made funnier in contrast to his other well known role as a Radio 4 announcer. The original show featured musical accompaniment by Edwin Braden and the Hornblowers, and later The Max Harris Group. For the anniversary show, musical and sound effect...

Douglas Smith owes Brendan Fraser a thank-you card.
The Toronto-born actor inadvertently landed his first film role, as the young Fraser, in 1999’s Blast From the Past.

Universal Pictures is going to play with the Ouija board once again. The studio has announced the release date for the sequel to the Olivia Cooke-starring horror film, Ouija, that came out last October. This time around, however, the studio is working from a screenplay scribed by the writing team behind Oculus.
Variety reveals that Ouija 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21st, 2016. Nobody is signed on to direct at this point, but it's been revealed that Universal is working from a screenplay written by Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who co-wrote the popular mirror-centric horror movie, Oculus, which Flanagan also directed.
As part of their first-look deal with Universal, Blumhouse Productions will back the sequel, with Jason Blum producing alongside Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis and Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. It's also been announced that Ouija 2 will see worldwide distribution.

Our congratulations to all of the nominees.” First-time nominees include Jodie Foster ("House of Cards," "Orange is the New Black"), Cary Fukunaga ("True Detective"), Mike Judge ("Silicon Valley"), Lisa Cholodenko ("Olive Kitteridge"), Michael Wilson ("The Trip to Bountiful") and Jill Soloway ("Transparent"). Exclusive: Bradley Cooper may have been snubbed by the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild, but Broadway and the West End love him. When his lauded performance as John Merrick, Aka the Elephant Man, completes its limited run at the Booth Theatre on February 22, Cooper and the rest of the show’s accomplished cast will get a few weeks off before reuniting for a 12-week run in London that will begin, two production sources tell me, in April.
The producers—including both the Shubert and Nederlander theater-owning organizations, along with (take a deep breath) Terry Allen Kramer, Catherine Adler, Roger Berlind, Caiola Productions, Patrick Catullo, Larry Hirschhorn, Jeffrey Finn Productions, Van Kaplan, Edward M. Kaufmann, Hal Luftig, Arielle Tepper Madover, Peter May, Stephanie P. McClelland, Douglas Smith, Jonathan M. Tisch and Scott & Brian Zeilinger—haven’t closed a deal on a West End house as yet, but they’re about to.

Bradley Cooper‘s “The Elephant Man” on Broadway broke its own box office record — again — and recouped capitalization costs after just six-and-a-half weeks of performances.
The cap costs totaled $3.1 million, which were officially recouped following the week of Dec. 21. The following week, the production broke its own house box office record, grossing $1,058,547. It was the first show at the Booth Theatre to rake in more than $1 million in a week.
Cooper concurrently has a limited-release film hit with “American Sniper.”

Deadline report that young Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters actor Douglas Smith will appear in Paramount's currently shooting Terminator reboot, although they state that his exact role is "under wraps". Given the obvious time-bending nature of the plot though, I'd say there's a good chance he'll be playing either a young John Connor (Jason Clarke) or Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney). Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is filming now in New Orleans, and the flick will also star Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older T-800.

After graduating from the HBO series Big Love with roles in Ya adaptation Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and horror comedy Stage Fright, Douglas Smith is continuing to rise in Hollywood with news that he’s landed a supporting role in Paramount’s hotly anticipated franchise reboot Terminator: Genesis.
No information yet on who Smith is playing, but the film is currently rolling cameras in New Orleans, so I can’t imagine it’s an especially important part. Regardless, Smith is a talented young actor, and it’s exciting to see his star rise with a role in a tentpole as surely lucrative as Terminator: Genesis.
The movie, directed by Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor, is currently shooting. The script was written by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) with an eye to igniting a new trilogy of Terminator movies for Paramount,...

With the various torments of development hell (numerous script drafts, switching studios etc.) now behind it, the horror film based on Hasbro’s Ouija appears ready to start scaring real, live people. Percy Jackson’s Douglas Smith is already aboard and Olivia Cooke is now signed up.The Possession's writing team of Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have worked on the most recent draft of the script, with White stepping into the director’s chair for the film. Ouija will find a group of friends who discover that one of their classmates – who had been messing around with one of the spirit-talking boards – has died recently. So what do they do, against all reason and sanity? Start trying to use the thing to contact the girl! Naturally, things go horrifically wrong.Cooke, who most recently appeared on TV’s Bates Motel, is set as the dead girl’s friend,...

While originally planned as a big-budget supernatural adventure movie to be directed by McG, Universal took Ouija in a new direction early last year. Paranormal Activity/Insidious producer Jason Blum is working with Platinum Dunes on the project and it looks like the movie is getting ready to film soon. We have information on who will be making their directorial debut with Ouija, along with news of who has been cast.
Bates Motel‘s Olivia Cooke is said to be taking on a lead role, along with Douglas Smith. Daren Kagasoff has also been cast. According to Deadline, the story is as one would expect, with “a group of teens playing with a Ouija board, making contact with an evil spirit, and desperately trying to close the door they’ve opened before meeting their own fate.”
Stiles White will be making his directorial debut with this movie and he co-wrote the script with Juliet Snowden.

Fans of A&E's "Bates Motel" will recognize today's latest addition to the cast of director Stiles White's Ouija . The Hollywood Reporter brings word that actress Olivia Cooke has joined the cast opposite the previously-announced Douglas Smith and Daren Kagasoff. Originally conceived as a big-budget adventure movie, Ouija , naturally, takes its cue from the Hasbro "game" of the same name. The project saw its beginnings at Universal, but it moved to Paramount where McG was attached to helm. Earlier this year, however, the movie reverted back to Universal with Blumhouse Productions ( Paranormal Activity ), Platinum Dunes ( Friday the 13th ) and Hasbro ( Transformers , Battleship ) producing. We first discovered Jerome Sable when he broke ground with the Sundance accepted short, 2010′s The Legend of Beaver Dam. When there was no mention of Stage Freight for September’s Toronto Int. Film Fest, I mentally circled Sable’s name for a mention in the Sundance ’14 program. With an almost guaranteed certainty, the fully fledged filmmaker and accomplished film composer with a good number of shorts under his belt has a brand we can call his own. This horror musical (shot in September of ’12) stars the ensemble that can belt out the tunes as well in Minnie Driver, Meat Loaf, Allie MacDonald and Douglas Smith.
Gist: Minnie Driver plays Kylie Swanson, the enigmatic and haunted star of the Broadway stage, and mother of siblings Camilla (MacDonald) and Buddy (Smith) who find themselves at the centre of the unfolding horror at the camp. Meat Loaf plays Roger McCall, the fallen-from-grace Broadway producer turned camp director.

After years of wishing and wanting, an adaptation on the timeless disco number “Rasputin” by Boney M. is in the mix. Just kidding! There is a limited event series coming up being called Rasputin, but it’s based on the true events that inspired that amazing song from the ‘70s. It might come as a shock, but Rasputin, “Russia’s greatest love machine,” was an extremely real and improbable individual. He led such a fascinating life that legends have sprung up about him and he was immortalized in a disco song. Now FX will turn his story into a series that ought to leave a new generation in awe of this impossible man.
Grigori Rasputin was a Russian peasant and mystic who became the private adviser to the Romanovs, the Russian Imperial family. The man became famous when Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra made him healer for their only son,...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Under the Dome, Suits, The Bridge and Graceland!
1 | True Blood fans, what was more mind-numbingly boring — Terry’s funeral (yep, we’re still not over that) or the finale’s seemingly endless town hall meeting?
2 | Has The Newsroom completely forgotten about Will’s death threat from Season 1? Speaking of which, where’s Lonny?
3 | Why do TV shows — most recently, Breaking Bad — ask us to believe that one person could dig a sizable hole in the ground by themselves,...

Sometimes, handling one thing yields something bigger.
Such was Oliver's (Matt Gordon) fortune in mediating a neighborhood domestic dispute in the opening moments of Thursday's (Aug. 22) ABC "Rookie Blue" episode, "You Are Here." After apparently resolving the discord -- which the husband admitted could have been because he "forgot our anniversary" (whoops!) -- Oliver noticed an odd, "super-skunky" smell.
He and partner du jour Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) then uncovered a "grow-op," or as Sam (Ben Bass) put it, a house "swimming in illegal marijuana plants." And a smart-alecky young suspect named Chuck (Doug Smith) was taken into custody and turned over to Chloe (Priscilla Faia), alias -- at least for this story -- "the booking fairy."
Meanwhile, Andy (Missy Peregrym) told Nick (Peter Mooney) her concerns about feeling "sneaky" about their secretive new romance. When he offered to tell his ex Gail about it, Andy insisted on being the one...

Of all the young adult (Ya) franchise starter wannabes that have graced the big screen only to disappear into obscurity, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is probably not the one you’d expect or want to get a sequel. (That honor goes to this year’s Beautiful Creatures, a conclusion I’m sure all twelve people who paid to see it in theaters would agree with.) But box office is a global game now, so when Percy and his friends grossed $226M on a $95M budget the sequel got the green light envied by so many others. But where the first film had a massive, Harry Potter-sized marketing campaign, a Potter director in Chris Columbus and a non-Potter shirtless Pierce Brosnan, the follow-up would have to make do with somewhat less. Namely a smaller budget, a director named Thor, and a bespectacled Anthony Head. After realizing his identity as the son of Poseidon in the...

The more I see of Percy Jackson: Seas of Monsters, the sillier it looks, but I'm still hoping it will be entertaining. The latest clip from the movie features a sea creature known as a Hippocampus. The movie is set to be released this week on August 7th, and here's the clip.
The Thor Freudenthal-directed film stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Douglas Smith, Mary Birdsong, Yvette Nicole Brown, Missi Pyle, Anthony Head, Paloma Kwiatkowski, Leven Rambin, Stanley Tucci, Robert Maillet, and Zoe Aggeliki.

Unless something is done, the camp will be attacked by demons and monsters. The only way to restore power to the camp's borders and to save their home is to find the mythical Golden Fleece.
