This may have been the hottest thing in 1957 when it was published. Now, it is so dated, has so few maps and pictures, and reads like it was written by a doddering old British professor that it is boring beyond belief. It just goes to show you hows much technology has changed the science of architecture and archeology. Ground penetrating radar had not yet been invented in 1957. What this old guy dismisses as piles of rubble are now known to be good places to dig for data to put together a 3-D rendering of what was. Too bad he did not live to see the technology improve. This devolves into a curiosity rather than a reference book.
