Al Alhy Benghazi (D1) signed 29-year old South Sudanese-Australian ex-international center Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (213cm-102kg-1994, college: Baylor) for upcoming 2023-24 THE BAL 4 season. . Lual-Acuil started the season at Melbourne United in Australian NBL league. In 29 games he had 14.5ppg, 7.7rpg (#4 in the league), 1.2apg and 1.4bpg. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. 2023-24 was a great season as he was voted Australiabasket.com All-Australian NBL Center of the Year, named to All-Domestic Players Team and League Player of the Week (2 times). Lual-Acuil was a member of South Sudanese Senior National Team two years ago.
He is quite experienced player. Lual-Acuil has played in six different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in China (Monkey Kings), Hungary (Atomeromu), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem and Galil Elion), Lebanon (Dynamo), Libya (Ahly Benghazi) and NBA Summer League (Phoenix Suns).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he won Australian NBL championship title in 2021. Lual-Acuil was selected Australiabasket.com All-Australian NBL Sixth Player of the Year back in 2021.
He graduated from Baylor University in 2018 and it is his sixth season as a professional player. Lual-Acuil played also for Neosho County Community College for 2 years.
