Mesopotamia

The area known at various times in history as Sumer, Mesopotamia and Iraq (AUDIO: Out of the Deep) was a region on Earth in Asia. It was the place where human civilisation began, and was home to the city-states of Uruk and Kish. One part of Mesopotamia was called Lower Mesopotamia, where the city-state Ur was situated. In around 5000 CE, one of Earth's first cities Eridu was founded. (AUDIO: Out of the Deep)

In the 11th century BCE, the Surene tribe of Lower Mesopotamia buried women alive with their dead husbands. (AUDIO: The Boundless Sea)

The Thirteenth Doctor and her friends took part in the very first New Year's Eve celebrations in Mesopotamia. This region of Mesopotamia would later become Iraq. (TV: Resolution)

First millennium CE[]

In the 1st century, the multicultural city of Byzantium was home to Mesopotamians. (PROSE: Byzantium!)

Second millenium CE[]
