Matthew Doyle was a reverend who rescue Nyssa from being burnt as a witch in 1738. He brought Nyssa back to his house to look after her. He helped Nyssa in her endeavours to find information about the cellars where the Fifth Doctor was. He became enamoured with her. He disowned her when the whole community accused her of being a witch again. He regretted his when he saw her being drowned and tried to save her, but he couldn't see her. (AUDIO: Ghost Walk)
