Minneapolis is a city in Ottawa County, Kansas, United States.[4] It is also the county seat of Ottawa County. In 2020, 1,946 people lived there.[3]
History
[change | change source]Minneapolis was originally called Markley's Mills. It was renamed Minneapolis about 1871, after Minneapolis, Minnesota.[5] A railroad was built through Minneapolis in 1878.[6]
Minneapolis had its own minor league baseball team called the Minnies in 1905. They also had it from 1908-1909, and again in 1912, alternately as part of the Kansas State League or Central Kansas League.
Geography
[change | change source]Minneapolis is at 39°7′29″N 97°42′19″W / 39.12472°N 97.70528°W (39.124719, -97.705209).[7] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 1.83 square miles (4.74 km2). All of it is land.[8]

2020 census
[change | change source]The 2020 census says that there were 1,946 people, 785 households, and 473 families living in Minneapolis. Of the households, 71.8% owned their home and 28.2% rented their home.
The median age was 42.2 years. Of the people, 92.2% were White, 0.9% were Black, 0.3% were Native American, 0.3% were Asian, 0.5% were from some other race, and 5.9% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.9% of the people.[3][9]
2010 census
[change | change source]The 2010 census says that there were 2,032 people, 832 households, and 528 families living in Minneapolis.[10]

- Frank "Cannonball" Richards, vaudeville and sideshow performer known for his acts involving hits to the gut, most famously getting shot with a cannonball
- Alexander Riddle, 11th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas and publisher of the Minneapolis Messenger newspaper
