Bertil is pessimistic and constantly sees the negative in every situation, while Sofia tries to be optimistic and find the positive. Bertil complains about his life, and wants Sofia to buy a scratch ticket for him. When he gets a surprise win, Bertil and Sofia seem to suddenly switch their perspectives. The theme of the story is the power of perspective and how it affects one's perception of the world. Despite Bertil's negative outlook, Sofia tries to bring positivity into his life and shows him that there is beauty in even the smallest things.
