The USS Phalanx (NX-74998, later NCC-74998) was the first starship of its class, and was in service to the Federation Starfleet in the 24th century.

The Phalanx underwent the final stages of construction at the orbital Lisbon Fleet Yards. (ST - Ships of the Line calendar: 2013)
The Phalanx was assigned to the Federation-Klingon Empire border to restore tactical balance in the region following skirmishes provoked by the Kinshaya. Sherman's Planet was its homeport which reassured the colonists who had felt neglected by Federation authorities. (ST reference: Ships of the Line)
