Avery Brooks as Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko.

Avery Brooks is an American actor best known to Star Trek fans for playing Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Brooks appeared in every episode of the series and also directed nine, including "Far Beyond the Stars", one of Star Trek's most popular episodes. Brooks also voiced Captain Sisko in the games Harbinger, Captain's Chair and Star Trek: Legacy.

Prior to his role as Sisko, Brooks was well known as Hawk in Spenser: For Hire and A Man Called Hawk and also reprised the role in four television movies during the run of Deep Space Nine. Brooks also appears in the films The Big Hit, American History X and 15 Minutes and as the lead role in the PBS television production of Twelve Years a Slave, Solomon Northup's Odyssey.

Brooks is also an accomplished stage actor, and has appeared in many theatre productions of plays by William Shakespeare, including King Lear and Othello. Brooks has also played Paul Robeson and Malcolm X on the stage. Aside from his theatre roles, Brooks also teaches at Rutgers and narrates documentaries for television and other media.
