Jenny Lumet (born 2 February 1967; age 57) is a producer and writer who worked as co-executive producer on the second season and as executive producer on the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, and as consulting producer on the first half of Star Trek: Picard's first season. Lumet also wrote episodes of Star Trek: Short Treks and Star Trek: Discovery. She is an executive producer of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which she co-created with Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman.
Lumet, the daughter of director Sidney Lumet and granddaughter of entertainer Lena Horne, was born in New York City. As a child, she voiced a role in the 1976 movie Everybody Rides the Carousel and appeared in the 1982 Deathtrap, directed by her father. In 1988, she appeared in Running on Empty (again directed by her father, with Lynne Thigpen) and Tougher Than Leather (with Adam Keefe Horovitz). 1990 saw her in Q & A (also directed by her father), 1994 in the short Assassination, and 1995 she appeared in Dodgeball.
In the 2000s, she switched to writing and wrote the 2008 film Rachel Getting Married, starring Anne Hathaway. In 2017 she provided the screen story for The Mummy, featuring Annabelle Wallis, and Sofia Boutella.
In 2016, she sold a series concept to CBS, which was to be produced by CBS Studios and Secret Hideout, the production company founded by Alex Kurtzman. [1] The series, a crime procedural, would have starred Brad William Henke and featured Yadira Guevara-Prip. She initially joined Discovery as a consulting producer, and was eventually promoted to co-executive producer. [2]
