PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Sharif has completed his BSc. and MSc. in Microbiology from the Department of Microbiology, Jahangirnagar University. After completing his graduation, he has been involved in research in the Clinical Microbiology and Immunology laboratory in virology, microbial interactions, molecular epidemiology, bioinformatics and metagenomics. Further, he is also working in genomics and evolutionary studies of rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus, human bocavirus, sapovirus and other enteroviruses. His work is extended to understand the genomic dynamics and molecules involved in pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance of Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. and Escherichia coli. Both clinical and environmental isolates are being investigated to determine the complete dissamination cycle of multidrug resistance genetic elements from environment to clinical settings and human body. During his work with enteropathogens he became highly interested to work in gut microbiome and their interaction/roles with immunity and T- cell activation/maintainance.

He is also actively working on evaluating vaccine effectiveness and impact of different preventive measures on outcome of COVID-19 and dengue outbreaks. He is conducting research works to determine genomic diversity and phylodynamics of these viruses to find out more accurate diagnostic tools, and effective treatment options and preventive optins in future. He is also working to determine the pathways and genetic materials involved in microbial co-evolution through mutual interactions specially bacteria-virus, bacteria-bacteria, bacteria-fungi, fungi-virus and bacteria-fungi-virus interaction.

He is highly devoted to the scientific community. As of his zeal for the advancement and updated knowledge in the field he is actively contributing as an editorial board member of BMC Infectious Diseases and PLoS ONE journals. He is also working as a review editor in reputed journals like Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Virolgy journals. Besides, he has reviewed more than 70 scientific articles in renowned journals including The Lancet, Scientific Reports, Plos one, Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Public Health, Frontiers in Virology, Heliyon, Globalization and Health, Journal of Medical Virology, Nutrients, BMJ Public Health, Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, Infectious Diseases of Poverty, International Journal of Surgery, Rapid Reviews\Infectious Diseases by MIT and other journals.
