Star Wars

This is easily the best-known Triumph sketch. Why is it not featured more prominently in the article?

Triumph Vs. Pets.com Dog

According to the Answers web site, Pets.com didn't sue Triumph the Insult Comic Dog because he infringed on their trademark; Triumph was actually sued for defamation of character, resulting from repeated accusations that the Pets.com dog was just a rip-off of the Conan O'Brien character. I'd heard this from other sources as well, so that's what I'm inclined to beleive. M.Neko

The pets.com article has a referance saying Smidel sued pets.com first and they responded with a counter suit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.107.135.210 (talk) 18:21, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Triumph's Accent

Slavic? I thought of of it as Latin/Hispanic...? Krupo 04:41, Oct 13, 2004 (UTC)

Smigel has stated that is a Russian accent, to some extent an impression of his Grandfather.

He's called the Hungarian Insult dog, take a wild guess

--By whom is he called the Hungarian Insult Dog?

--This is an excellent discussion... FOR ME TO POOP ON!

--Looks like Krupo has never heard a latin accent. I'm spanish and I say: that accent must be russian or something, that way of pronouncing the R is not spanish at all.

--In the recent Inside the Actor's Studio with Conan O'Brien, Conan said that it was a "Russian woman's voice". Can't be arsed to actually cite it and such, so I'll just leave this tidbit here if anyone wants it. --132.170.125.87 (talk) 16:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Smigel interview in Time Magazine on Nov. 24, 2000:

Q: Why was that thick-accented voice the one you decided to go with?

A: Yeah, Triumph is a Borscht Belt comic, but he talks like he's from eastern Europe. Very tangled web. When I was 10 years old, that's the voice I gave to dogs. I think because my grandparents talked in that accent.

Q: And they had dogs?

A: No. [laughs] The awful explanation I have is like I subconsciously compare dogs with eastern European immigrants because they both come over, they both enter the world with wide-eyed wonder, they're both just a step behind what's going on — at first anyway. So I just imagine a dog talking "Oh, look at all of this! I can't believe it!" So every dog on this show has an eastern European accent. They are all the same accent, just different voices. Just like real dogs. [1]

Triumph's Breed

Looks more like a Rottweiler to me. I belive the hand puppet that is Triumph was onc sold a s a Rottweiler puppet.

Article Title: Comma Needed?

This is a very picky point, I know, but WP is the only place I've ever seen "Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog" with the comma. Perhaps this article should be moved to the commaless title? Or am I being too pedantic? Telestylo 07:50, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Confrontation with Eminem?

You should put more details. What did he actually say that made them edit it out of the reruns? user:gwat

2004 election

triumph did a bit where he skewered everyone in spin alley during the 2004 election season. It's one of his best bits. Why is it not mentioned?

Québec Bashing

I'd just like to add, as a long-time quebecois fan of Conan's show, that the little scandal with that Québec city episode was more about the show receiving a million in government money to tape in Toronto as a city p.r. event following the SARS crisis. Oh yeah, and the sketch was just... I dunno, but I'me sure i never seen a french beret in my home town. Altough I saw a tuque, once.

Debut

I seem to remember his debut being one of a number of sketches on Conan where they would field some new characters for the coming year. Triumph was one of them and every joke ended with "for me to poop on". I think "pimpbot" and the controversial "camel-toe Annie" had a similar origin.

- Also Conan says that it was Attack of the Nerds that was first real sketch, not dog show.

Criticism

Okay, I've just submitted the following entry and had it deleted in about 30 seconds by self-proclaimed net-cop Meeples:

"Many of Trimphs clips contain very obvious changes in ambient audio levels and background noise, a clear indication of post-production dubbing. These sound-bytes typically contain humorous comebacks and often occur mid-sentence or in response to statements made by members of the public, thus suggesting that Smigel's comedic skill isn't quite as spontaneous as he would have his audience believe."

I have no intention of starting a debate on the ethics of such conduct, but the fact that it does so obviously occur in numerous Trimph clips is a perfectly valid point to make. Much of Triumphs humor lies in the fact that it is presented as being spontaneous. Such deliberate video manipulation calls into question the authenticity of the clips, a quality that Wikipedia itself aspires to.

Meeples, I appreciate the efforts people such as yourself make to maintain the standard of Wikipedia articles. I would also appreciate it if in future you provide more details as to your reasons. At the very least, something a little more substantial than a pithy accusation of it being "nonsense". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.82.183.148 (talk) 08:52, 31 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

That sounds interesting, but it's your original research. That would be acceptable only if you have more facts and sources to support your research. --Svetovid 12:27, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

living person

should triumph be classified as a living person biography, my reasoing is 1. he is a character of a living person and 2. he is at times controversial so it might be good to have the same restrictions.

I think him not being alive, or a person, could present a logical problem there. Also why is he in "Fictional Hispanics"? Bender (Futurama) would fit, although I just added him to Fictional Mexicans instead, but when did Triumph say he was Hispanic?--T. Anthony 13:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terri Gross interview

Triumph appeared on Fresh Air to mock Bill O'Reilly's appearance on the same show. I'll see if I can find the date of his appearance.

Accent

as a non native English-speaker myself, I still seem to find that he's got some English accent, is that Scottish? Irish? or just, well, Doggish? If he speaks in some accent at all, it would be good for someone who knows which one, to point it out in the article.
