Intercity Football League (Chinese: 城市足球聯賽; pinyin: Chéngshì zúqiú liánsài) is the top-ranked Taiwanese football (soccer) league run by Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA).
History
The Intercity Football League was founded in 2007 after the transformation of National First Division Football League (later Enterprise Football League). Different from the latter, registered players of Intercity Football League are grouped by their places of residence, such as Taipei City, Yilan County, Tainan City, etc., rather than specialized football teams, such as Taipower. (However, Tatung F.C. represented Taipei City in the 2007 league season.) By Intercity Football League's establishment, CTFA hoped to root football into each area in Taiwan and to seek supports from local governments, councilors, and companies. In the first league season, several magistrates served as team leaders, including Chou Hsi-wei (Taipei County), Chen Ming-wen (Chiayi County), and Lu Kuo-hua (Yilan County).
Nevertheless, in 2008, CTFA opened the league participation to non-administrative division teams, such as Taiwan Power Company F.C. (Taipower) and National Taiwan College of Physical Education (as Chia Cheng Hsin). The top 4 places of previous season were automatically granted to participate. The other 4 places were selected through qualifying tournament. Taipower eventually won the league championship. However, the defending champion might not be allowed to participate in the next season since CTFA announced to change the league regulation. Each participating team should have name relating to one administrative region and more than 2/3 players having their households registered to that place for more than one month. Promotion and relegation were also introduced.[1]
