Blocking of "spambot/openproxy"

Regarding your block of 66.197.217.245 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), et al. for being spambot/open proxies: I appreciate the speed at which you block these IPs which are being exploited by people using automated software like this one to spam. However, after you block one, please put {{subst:openproxy}} on its user talk, so that if the IP allocation ever changes and its no longer a proxy, the next occupant won't be scratching their heads why they're blocked (explaining in the block log is a little terse IMO). I don't think it will slow you down a single bit, will it? :) Flyingtoaster1337 05:55, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All Hail Ryulong, the Administrator!

Congratulations, Ryulong, on your sucessful request for adminship! We think you'll do a great job as an admin. Keep it up! -- Altiris Exeunt 06:09, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks

just wanted to say thanks in regards to 58.10.102.143, it was getting frustrating to need to continuously revert. Lord of Haha 06:33, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Ryulong!

Hi, thank you for unblocking me, I just want you to know, That I wrote a very large part of that Article yesturday, and some of the information has changed, and then you protected the article, how am I supposed to change it? There is wrong information, and I would like to change it please. Thank you very much MCRluvr 06:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I protected the article because of User:MCRluvsME which you apparently created. You can request that the article be editted by using {{editprotected}} on the talk page, which will notify another admin to change the article.—Ryūlóng () 06:42, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not create MCRluvsME, I know who did, but it wasn't me, she created it at the same time that I did.

--MCRluvr 06:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right, sorry. Names are too similar. I will block both and unprotect the article for now.—Ryūlóng () 06:46, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, that is one of my former friends, and once she found out what part of the article I wrote, she went and deleted it all, I called her and she admitted she did it, I really, really appreciate this! --MCRluvr 06:48, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also just want to ask one thing, will MCRluvsME, be able to edit that article? because she has said she was going to delete it all.

--MCRluvr 01:45, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MCRluvsME is blocked indefinitely for impersonating you.—Ryūlóng () 01:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats

Just heard of your recent "promotion." It's amazing how much one can miss when one isn't paying attention to it (I've had my head stuck in Michigan radio stuff for the last two weeks). Congrats on the promotion -- may you only abuse your powers if it helps me. ;-) JPG-GR 06:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Belated congratulations from me, too, Ryulong. Welcome to the admin team and all the best with your adminship. Cheers, Sarah 12:37, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotection

I had semi-portected my usertalk since I was under constant attack from Cplot et al. It doesn't seem to be working at this time. Maybe it needs to be reset at semi-protection and if you don't mind, I would appreciate it.--MONGO 07:18, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cplot is using sleepers, now. The latest one was made five days ago.—Ryūlóng () 07:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I hadn't noticed that...good eye and thanks.--MONGO 07:21, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

How are the new tools helping out? — Deckiller 10:01, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that User:Mathmo is trying to avoid being busted for a WP:3RR by editting while logged out as evidenced here. I haven't reverted the last edit as I have no desire to further this edit war. He clearly doesn't care about WP:FAIR (or possibly other policies, based on his contribs). Just bringing it to someone's attention. JPG-GR 20:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have since reverted the page and requested semi-protection. JPG-GR 20:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: This is a test

What was that for? On my talk page? Jaredtalk20:02, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know how to fix it? I noticed there was a problem recently. Jaredtalk20:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dont' know.—Ryūlóng () 20:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it. I had to go into Portal:Box-header and add an "if" statement. I've done that several times when things weren't working my way...rather than try to fix them, alter the template to suit my needs! Haha. But it'd be useful for others too. Thanks for trying to help! Jaredtalk20:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. I just wish I could have done more to do so.—Ryūlóng () 20:29, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

gabriel renaud

May I ask why you deleted the article about the opera singer Gabriel Renaud. With all due respect, I doubt you are able to ascertain the notoriety of an opera singer in Latin America.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elchuchulo (talkcontribs).

The article was just a list of operas he performed in. No notability was asserted.—Ryūlóng () 21:46, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking that IP...

However, I noticed you gave him six months, as opposed to an indef ban, though the usage was only LB edits. Is there a difference in policy for usernames vs. IPs wrt ban times? MSJapan 22:47, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which IP was this?—Ryūlóng () 22:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! I was told to do so by the checkuser that rooted it out.—Ryūlóng () 22:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OhOhAbarenOh

The オオ in オオアバレンオー is pronounced distinctly. If it were OhAbarenOh, it would be spelled with オー, as it is at the end of the name. When speaking the name, the characters speak the o sounds very distinctly separate. And, as I said, it is オオアバレンオー, not オーアバレンオー. Angel the Techrat 01:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The use of Hepburn romaji is easier here.—Ryūlóng () 01:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then it would be helpful if all of the symbols used in the Hepburn system actually appeared on most browsers or could be types using the alt-#### system.. Reguardless, the o sounds are distinct. It would be ō'ōAbarenō, I suppose (if clipping characters that don't show up properly pastes them properly..). <edit> Okay. O-O- works. It at least shows the sounds to be separated. And ou 王 is translated as king. I just kept with the oh convention because it was used everywhere else in the article. I dislike it, myself, because people only use it to keep english-speakers from pronouncing ou as "ow". Anyway, the plain romaji is ooabarenoo, which is of course confusing and frustraiting, because that style of romaji also fails to show when a vowel is distinctly doubled or just stressed by the us of ー. Angel the Techrat 02:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there's really no good way to write it. "OhOh" is good, but it makes it seem that the O's are longer.—Ryūlóng () 02:08, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Patsy Moore

BS"D

Question: Why did you delete our photo, "patsy2.jpg"? The photo is our property and we stated as much in our license info. Please respond, at your earliest convenience, on our talk page. Thank you. InfoSource 16:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)User:InfoSOurce 8:25, 28 January 2007[reply]

According to your response to my earlier inquiry--as to why the photo was removed from the Patsy Moore page on Wikipedia--you stated:

"I deleted it because it did not have copyright information. As it is now, it has the wrong copyright information, which is a criterion for speedy deletion. If you work for Ms. Moore, please e-mail permissions at wikimedia.org to provide us with an image of Ms. Moore that can be released under the GFDL or other such copylefts found at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.—19:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)"

Would that be "permissions@wikipedia.org"? If so, I e-mailed "patsy2.jpg", taken by photographer Victory Anderson—and for which she granted written and full permission for use by Patsy Moore, her site (http://www.patsymoore.com), and any future projects of Ms. Moore—to that address. The photo is, in fact, being used as the cover for an upcoming audio single. The only way we now know of reaching Ms. Anderson is via an e-mail address which was also forwarded to "permissions@wikipedia.org".

What is the PROPER license for us to employ in order to make that happen? We would like nothing more than to rectify this matter as soon as possible and to avoid an ongoing episode of put the picture up/take the picture down.

Also, can you elaborate on what words of Ms. Moore's entry constitute 'weasel words' and why all citations were removed only to be replaced by a warning that no citations exist?

Your prompt advisement, left on our discussion page, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Best regards, InfoSource 02:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Seamus Byrne (InfoSource) pmDOTcom & Associated Sites Administration[reply]

The proper license would be {{GFDL}} or some other copyleft license. The copyright will be figured out by the time WP:OTRS deals with it. And there are various reasons why I cleaned up the article, which could be understood by visiting WP:AWW, WP:FOOTNOTE, and the other correct pages.
Also, if this account is to be used by more than one person, then it may have to be blocked for being a role account.—Ryūlóng () 02:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, according to the definition I just read, this is not a 'role account'. Although I am not the only person working for pmDOTcom, I am the only person authorized to make actual changes to the page and, as far as I know, I am the only one who has done so—outside of Wikipedia editors, of course. Do you have reason to believe otherwise?

InfoSource 02:56, 29 January 2007 (UTC)InfoSource[reply]

You use "we" a lot, though. That's what is confusing me.—Ryūlóng () 02:59, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something odd here - banned socks from November creating user talk pages

A bunch of users, all identified as blocked socks of User:Bobabobabo, have in the past few minutes all created indentical User talk pages with some warning message you left someone back in October. All the created pages are identical: Ones so far are: User talk:Cosmosbunny, User talk:RyēlØng, User talk:LordPrincess, User talk:Fabu-Vinny, User talk:Pikaraichu, User talk:Bluesheep02. Looks like all were blocked back in November. Doesn't make any sense that I can see, but I thought you might want to look at them. Fan-1967 03:33, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting Betacommand to do some work with a template I've created. If you check my contribs, you'll see what to do.—Ryūlóng () 04:10, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to pester, but is there a list of talk pages of Bobabobabo's sock accounts? --210physicq (c) 04:16, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BOBA (yes, it's a cross namespace redirect, but it's easier that way)—Ryūlóng () 04:17, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Those cross-name redirects are not considered harmful; the harmful ones are those that are from the mainspace to the other space. Usertalk space to Wikipedia space are okay, like how WP:JIMBO redirects to Jimbo's user talk page, or how WP:WOW once redirected to WT:LTA/Willy on Wheels. Hbdragon88 06:07, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yu-Gi-Oh

Ugh. I've totally given up on episodes...they're everywhere, and they'll never fall in AFD. The only way to destroy them is to uproot them where they're not being protected - Power Rangers was an elegant example, being able to merge most of the episodes in one fell swoop (well, after everybody else had rmoved the prods). If I try to broaden my reach too far I'll go insane, so I think I'll try to keep it all down to merging all of the stupid article within the WP:PCP - Mt. Silver is my next target, for instance. Hbdragon88 06:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They're all linked to one page, though.—Ryūlóng () 06:09, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This stub of restaurant was created 1 day ago. It was written with a neutral point of view, a description of its basic business operation and background, a short list of its competitors, and it was flagged PROD the very same day for lack of notability due to ghit and was proposed for deletion in 5 days. The business does not have a dire need of an online presence due to the nature of its business but is known in the Greater Sacramento area and some part of San Francisco Bay Area. The PROD based on ghit was unfair, and as it turned out, this stub was then deleted the next day.

Please consider undeleting this stub and allow for improvements/corrections. Thank you. - Waliwala 07:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting "The Black Balloon (film)" entry

I just saw you have deleted the entry for "The Black Balloon (film)". As reason for doing so you claimed it is a non existing film. WRONG! The film is in Production, it's actually shot at the moment. All information given by me were correct and most of them can be checked on various websites, here a list (just a sample list, not complete): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865297/ http://www.iconmovies.net/blackballoon/ http://www.if.com.au/Press/2007/01/15.html http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,21002619-5006013,00.html Even though the film is not released yet, as it is not finished yet, still the interest in it is quite high, driven by the cast and their appeal to certain target audiences.

The Black Balloon 08:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also deleted it because of your user name, you should not be writing an article about your film. Please wait for someone else to come along and write an article about the film from a non-biased perspective (and if it gets critical acclaim). Wikipedia and IMDB are not the same thing; or so long as information about a film is verifiable and neutral, it can be written about in Wikipedia.—Ryūlóng () 08:21, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is not my film! Somebody else started the article (which should be visible in the history)! I just corrected some parts (as they weren't correct) and added actors and crew, which are on IMDB and other online sources. I wouldn't have started an article, I just didn't want incorrect facts to be distributed. And because this is majorly a very young target group, who is already interested in the film, wrong facts get circulated very quickly and rumors are getting started, which is in nobodies interest. Isn't it? The Black Balloon 08:30, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize. I am currently working on restoring the article.—Ryūlóng () 08:31, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
