Lisa Jane Vanderpump (born 15 September 1960) is an English actress, businesswoman and television personality. With a career spanning over five decades, she has been called "the reigning queen of American reality TV" by BBC News,^[1] and is best known for appearing on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (2010–2019), Vanderpump Rules (2013–present), Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump (2021), Vanderpump Dogs (2021), and Vanderpump Villa (2024–present). She is also an executive producer on Vanderpump Rules, for which she has been Emmy nominated,^[2] Vanderpump Rules: Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky (2017), The Valley (2024–present), and Vanderpump Villa.

Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, have owned 35^[3] restaurants, bars and clubs in the United Kingdom and the United States.^[4][5]

Lisa Jane Vanderpump^[6][7] was born in Dulwich, Greater London, England^[8] on 15 September 1960,^[9][10] as the younger of two children to John David Vanderpump^[11] (1935–2024),^[12][13][14] an ad agency art director,^[8] and^[15] Jean Irene Vanderpump^[16] (née Hillebrandt;^[17] 1935–2019),^[18][19][20] a housewife.^[21] Her birth was registered in Dartford, Kent.^[9] Her elder brother was Mark Jonathan Vanderpump^[22] (1959–2018),^[23] a DJ and businessman.^{[24][25][26][27]}

Vanderpump attended Riverston School in Lee Green, South London.^[8] She was enrolled in the Corona Academy drama school at the age of nine,^[21] where her friends included Ray Winstone, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Cleo Rocos.^[28]

Vanderpump took ballet lessons from the age of three.^[8] She learned to barefoot water ski at the age of 16.^[29] She had bought herself a flat in Fulham, West London, by the age of 19. She was financially self-sufficient after leaving home, with "just a good education and a kick in the arse."^[8]

Vanderpump made her film debut at the age of 13, as an uncredited extra in Melvin Frank's 1973 romantic comedy, A Touch of Class. She portrayed Julia Allessio, the daughter of Glenda Jackson's character.^[30] She made her credited debut was as Anne in Alan Birkinshaw's 1978 slasher film Killer's Moon.^[31]

Vanderpump made her television debut at the age of 14, with the role of Ursula Marsh as a Girl, on the first episode of the BBC One drama television series John Halifax, Gentleman, in January 1974.^[32] She portrayed Lucille Wyatt on five episodes of the ITV children's television series Kids, in 1979. She was cast alongside a nine-year-old Naomi Campbell.^[33] She portrayed Sarah Wright on the fifth series of the BBC Two comedy series Kelly Monteith, in 1983.^[34] She had small roles on various episodic television programmes throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s, including; Storybook International (1981), Silk Stalkings (1983) and Baywatch Nights (1985).^[28]

Vanderpump appears in four^[35] music videos; "Poison Arrow" (1982) and "Mantrap" (1983) by the pop band ABC,^[36] "(What) In The Name of Love" (1984) by the new wave duo Naked Eyes,^[37] and "G.U.Y." by the singer-songwriter Lady Gaga (2014).^[38]

Vanderpump has been featured in over 100 television advertisements for brands, including; Maltesers, Lilt, Britvic 55, and Hamlet cigars.^[8]

Vanderpump has worked as an interior designer on first-class charter hire yachts.^[28] She has also designed homes.^[39]

Vanderpump teamed up with Ken Todd in late-1982, to become a husband-and-wife team. She deals with the design.^[28] Before moving to the United States, she designed 26 of the London-based establishments that she co-owned with her husband. In 1998, they sold four of their bars to the London Trocadero group for £10.5 million.^[40]

Vanderpump and her husband partnered with husband-and-wife team Guillermo Zapata and Nathalie Pouille Zapata to be co-owners of SUR Restaurant & Lounge in May 2005. With her husband, the couple own 51% of the business, while the Zapata's own 49%.^[41] The restaurant is located in West Hollywood, California.^[42] Vanderpump opened Villa Blanca in August 2008.^[43] She closed the establishment in July 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.^[44] She said she hopes to reopen the restaurant in a different location.^[45] Vanderpump opened Pump Restaurant, her second restaurant in West Hollywood, in May 2014.^[46][47][48] She closed the establishment in July 2023.^[49][50][51] Vanderpump and her husband partnered with Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz to open Tom Tom Restaurant & Bar, her third restaurant in West Hollywood, in July 2018.^[52] With her husband, the couple own 95% of the business, while Sandoval and Schwartz own 2.5% each.^[53]

Vanderpump made her debut as an executive producer on the 2007 comedy film Trust Me.^[55]

Vanderpump debuted on the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills^[56] on 14 October 2010, and is an original main cast member of the series.^[57] On 3 June 2019, she announced her departure from the series after nine seasons,^[58][59][60] and skipped the reunion.^[61]

Vanderpump was part of CNN's coverage for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton throughout April 2011.^[62]

Vanderpump authored Simply Divine: A Guide to Easy, Elegant, and Affordable Entertaining (ISBN 978-0-7624-4923-1), which was published by Running Press in November 2011.^[63]

Vanderpump created "The Vanderpump", her signature shoe. She designed the shoe with Ryan Haber, which was released in Spring 2012.^[64]

Vanderpump has been a main cast member^[66] and an executive producer on the first spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules,^[67] since the shows inception on 7 January 2013.^[68] She is one of the longest-running executive producers, having worked on every episode.^[69] The series originally focused on the staff at her restaurant, SUR Restaurant & Lounge.^[70] On 12 July 2023, it was announced that the series had recieved two nominations for the 75th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards; one for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program^[2] and one for Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Series, the latter of which was for the thirteenth episode, "Lady and the Glamp".^{[71][72][73][74][75]} On 7 January 2024, the series lost in both categories.^[76]

Vanderpump launched Vanderpump Vodka, her first alcoholic beverage, a clean and spicy Rye Vodka from Poland, in February 2013.^[77][78]

Vanderpump competed on the 16th season of the ABC dance competition series Dancing with the Stars. She was partnered with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko. The season debuted on 18 March 2013.^[79] They were the second couple eliminated, leaving in tenth place, on 9 April.^[80]

Vanderpump launched LVP Sangria, her second alcoholic beverage, which is the first premium bottled sangria straight from Valencia, Spain, in October 2013.^[77][81] In July 2020, the beverage was rebranded to Vanderpump Sangria.^[82]

Vanderpump made a cameo appearance as herself in the HBO comedy television series The Comeback. The episode, "Valerie Makes a Pilot", was broadcast on 9 November 2014.^[83]

Vanderpump made a cameo appearance as herself in the ABC television sitcom American Housewife. The episode, "Vacation!", was broadcast on 6 May 2020.^[103][104]

Vanderpump appeared on the E! reality television series Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump.^[109] The series ran from 18 March to 27 May 2021, and focused on Vanderpump as she hosts celebrity guest and cooks intimate meals.^[110]

Vanderpump appeared as a judge in the ABC dog grooming reality competition series Pooch Perfect. The series ran from 30 March to 18 May 2021, and was hosted by Rebel Wilson, with Jorge Bendersky and Dr. Callie Harris featuring as the other judges.^[111]

Vanderpump appeared on the second spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the third spin-off from Vanderpump Rules, Peacock's Vanderpump Dogs.^[112] The series was released on 9 June 2021, and focused on Vanderpump and her staff as they run her dog foundation and rescue centre.^[113] She is credited as an executive producer on the first episode.^[114]

Vanderpump attended the 2023 White House Correspondents' Dinner in April.^[115]

Vanderpump has become well-known through her philanthropic efforts.^[125]

Vanderpump has been a steadfast advocate for the LGBT community. She is a spokesperson for GLAAD.^[39] She often host Pride parades.^[126] She performed her first gay wedding between Magno and Dominic Salva in December 2014.^[127] She made a speech in the wake of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting.^[128][129]

Vanderpump fed the homeless population of Los Angeles from her restaurant, Villa Blanca, every week for 13 years.^[130][131] After the 2018 California wildfires, she donated meals from her restaurant to the firefighters and sheriffs involved in tackling the blazes.^[132]

Vanderpump is a supporter of Keep Memory Alive, founded by Larry Ruvo. The organisation was established to bring awareness to neurological disorders, including; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's, and Parkinson's.^[133]

Vanderpump has conducted fundraising for Susan G. Komen in honor of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month.^[77]

Vanderpump has supported the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center, helping homeless LGBT youth, in October 2013.^[134]

Vanderpump was named Monarch of the Krewe of Orpheus Mardi Gras in February 2015.^[135]

Vanderpump addressed the United Nations Concert for the EBOLA effort in March 2015.^[136]

Vanderpump led the 30th annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles in October 2015. She cut the starting ribbon for over 25,000 walkers.^[137] She has also supported the Desert AIDS Project.^[77]

Vanderpump recorded an album in August 2017, in aid of the trafficking. The album includes "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" by Carole King; the latter of which is in aid of Alzheimer's disease.^[140][141]

Vanderpump, a longtime supporter of The Trevor Project, recorded a PSA in June 2019, to ensure that LGBTQ young people know they are loved, their lives have value, and are never alone.^[142]

Vanderpump joined Richard Ayoub, the Executive Director of Project Angel Food, in July 2019, to countdown to Project Angel Food's 12-millionth meal in their Hollywood kitchen.^[143]

Vanderpump donated to the Los Angeles Foodbank and Midnight Mission in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.^[144]

Vanderpump organised a peaceful protest march against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in October 2015. The march went from MacArthur Park to the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles and started a movement to end the abuse, torture and slaughter of dogs worldwide.^[145][146] Together, with her husband and their partner, John Sessa, they launched the Stop Yulin Forever campaign.^[147]

Vanderpump addressed the United States Congress about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in September 2016.^[148][149]

Vanderpump launched The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organisation, online in 2016. Vanderpump opened the Vanderpump Dogs rescue center located in Los Angeles, on 1 March 2017.^[150][151] She also owns and operates two rescue centers in China.^[152]

Vanderpump served as a producer on the documentary film The Road To Yulin And Beyond. The short film was released on 28 March 2018, aiming to draw attention to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and bring it to an end. The film premiered at the Los Angeles Awareness Film Festival on 5 October 2017.^[153]

Vanderpump Dogs remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic.^[154] As of February 2023, Vanderpump has raised US$383,511.14 through Cameo for her foundation, since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States. Vanderpump Dogs have also saved "approximately 3,000 dogs domestically from kill shelters to date".^[155]

Vanderpump was in a relationship with Lucky Lowe (born 1957),^[156][157] an American world champion water skier, from 1978 to May 1982.^{[158][159][160]}

Vanderpump met her future husband, Kenneth Todd^[161] (born 20 July 1945),^{[162][163][164]} a businessman, at his first bar, Cork's Wine Bar in Kensington, London in May 1982.^[165][34] They met through her brother. The couple were engaged within six weeks of dating and were married at Kensington United Reformed Church on 28 August 1982, when she was 21 and he was 37.^[166][167] They have two children together; a daughter, Pandora Jean Ellen Vanderpump-Todd (born 7 May 1986),^[168][169] and an adopted^[170] son, Maxfield Vanderpump-Todd (born 7 December 1991).^[171] The couple renewed their wedding vows in 2012, after 30 years of marriage.^[172] She has a stepson from her husband's first marriage.^{[173][174][175]} She has a grandson from her daughter.^[176]

Vanderpump has resided in Beverly Hills, California since 2005,^[28][177] having moved from Shipton Sollars Manor in Cheltenham, Cotswolds.^[28][178] She sold her Beverly Park home for US$19 million in 2011^[179] and bought her US$12 million estate, Villa Rosa,^[180] in the Beverly Crest neighbourhood.^[181] She has lived in Monaco and the South of France. Vanderpump had a close relationship with her paternal grandmother, Kathleen "Nanny Kay" Vanderpump (née Dimond;^[183] born 24 June 1906).^[184] Her grandmother died in January 2007, at the age of 100.^[185] Her grandmother lived with her and her family on-and-off for 25 years^[186] after her grandfather, Horace Edward Vanderpump (born 30 March 1896),^[187][188] died in October 1981.^[189] She dedicated her 2011 book, Simply Divine: A Guide to Easy, Elegant, and Affordable Entertaining, to her, writing: "This book is dedicated to my grandmother Nanny Kay. . .who has sadly passed and is still so very missed–a woman who lived her life with elegance, grace, kindness, and style, and who encouraged me to be the best I can be. You will forever be in my heart."^[63] She connected with her grandmother, through Tyler Henry, on the E! reality television series Hollywood Medium in 2017.^[190] She spoke about her grandmother on the 15th episode in the eighth season of the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2018.^[191]

Vanderpump recorded a reggae version of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?", written by Carole King, in November 2011, after thinking of the idea with Lionel Richie.^[192]

Vanderpump had a skin cancer scare in August 2014. She was cleared of all her biopsies. She revealed that she has experienced "serious skin cancer" in the past.^[193]

Vanderpump is an ordained minister.^[194] She married Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney, from Vanderpump Rules, in August 2016.^[195][196]

Vanderpump has spoken publicly about her battle with depression following the suicide of her only sibling.^{[197][198][199]}

Vanderpump tested positive for COVID-19 in January 2022. She later made a full recovery.^[200]

Vanderpump was hospitalised on January 30, 2022, after she was thrown from her horse while riding at The Paddock in Los Feliz, Los Angeles. She broke her leg in four places.^{[201][202][203][204]}

Vanderpump is the paternal aunt of Sam Vanderpump, from the E4 structured-reality series Made in Chelsea.^{[205][206][207]}

Vanderpump received the Key to the City of Beverly Hills in March 2013, from then mayor Jimmy Delshad, who also declared March 1 'Lisa Vanderpump Day' in recognition of her charitable and philanthropist work.^[208]
