Amanza Walton Desir

Amanza Walton Desir (born 6 December, 1979) is a Guyanese politician and attorney who has served as Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana[1] since 2020. A central executive member[2] of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR), she is a member of parliament[3] in the National Assembly of Guyana.

Desir was born in Corentyne, Berbice, Guyana and was raised in Linden, Guyana.[1] She graduated with distinction from International Maritime Law Institute[4] with a Masters of Laws.

Early life and career

Desir was born in Corentyne, Berbice to Ovid Walton, who was a captain in Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Joy Walton, who was a schoolteacher.

Desir graduated from MacKenzie High School in 1995 and completed her A-level at President's College in 1997. She then attended University of Guyana, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree with honors. She continued her education at International Maritime Law Institute[4], graduating with a Masters of Laws with a concentration in Maritime Law.[4]

From 2005 to 2010, she was a special assistant to the Prime Minister of Guyana. In 2010, she went on to become the legal advisor to the Ministry of Public Works. There she provided legal advice to the Ministry of Public Works, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Maritime Administration Department and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. From 2013 to 2020, Desir became the General Counsel to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).[4]

Guyana National Assembly

In August 2020, Desir became a member of parliament in the National Assembly (Guyana).[5] She serves as Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana.[1]
