The contributor of this file has been blocked on EN as a confirmed sockpuppet of banned user Jvolkblum. That user has a long record of making false claims for sources of both images and articles. Uploader claims this was modified from a map on the county website, but I can't find this topic (or topics of his other maps) on that website. Orlady (talk) 22:57, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

KEEP > The information provided by the uploader of this image is accurate. The source of the image is indeed the county website, (westchester.gov) where an extensive amount of information can be easily found, including this 'zip-code map'(VIEW) from the 'Westchester County Department of Planning Databook'.--70.237.208.225 17:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The IP user who provided the above comment has no made no other contributions on this or any other topic. The IP is registered to AT&T in Texas, which is nowhere near Westchester County, New York. The group of sockpuppets to which the uploader belongs have an extensive history of using open proxies, anonymizers, etc., and thus appearing to be located all over the world. --Orlady (talk) 19:30, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Keep It is not established that this contributor is the original Jvolkblum who was banned on wikipedia. Also, the IP user, who I assume is the original contributor, appears to me to have responded well enough to Orlady's accusation by providing a link to info which could have been used in creating a legitimate image here. The content appears legitimate to me. Doncram (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, actually i need to modify my statement. Page 21 of the linked westchester county document shows a similar zip code map. That document, as a non-Federal government document, is not necessarily in the public domain. I understand that usually Federal documents/webpages are PD, local and state websites are not. Technically, if the present image is just a print to PDF file from that other map, and that other image is copyrighted, then I think this image may fall under the same copyright. I am not an expert about these legalities though, and would appreciate if others could clarify. Doncram (talk) 00:20, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The image here is clearly a copyvio of page 21 of http://www.westchestergov.com/PLANNING/research/Databook/Government.pdf --Orlady (talk) 18:29, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it is clear that it is copyvio. There could be a public domain source that is the original, which the Westchestergov.com PDF file could also be derived from. Can it be ascertained whether the image is produced from the PDF file or not? I don't know what is technically possible to detect here. Doncram (talk) 20:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are going way too far in giving the benefit of the doubt, Doncram. The likelihood that Westchester County government borrowed this particular county-government-related image from some public domain source, but fails to identify that source, is slim. Furthermore, the image was uploaded by a user with an extensive record of sockpuppetry and false license claims, which creates substantial doubt about the veracity of this user's claims. --Orlady (talk) 19:17, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You go too far in your accusations, so i have been learning to doubt the claims you put up too. In a parallel discussion, a supporting claim you make is an absurd one, that it is highly unlikely an amateur photographer can take a pic of an empty train station. In practice, it is very easy to find a train station empty and to take a pic of it. Here, I asked a simple question whether it is technically possible to ascertain that the image is produced from the PDF. Your jab does not substantially respond to that question. Doncram: What you are asking to see is a large collection of deleted images and the edit histories for those image files. I can't see them, and neither can you. In case it helps any, I can point you to a few relevant pages:
Unfortunately, this list is not exhaustive. Also, many of the same images were uploaded to EN Wikipedia (by various Jvolkblum socks) -- and subsequently deleted -- before Jvolkblum was banned there. He has found Commons to be more tolerant of his material than EN has been. --Orlady (talk) 17:11, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete The source has been given by the IP in the second post, and there is no indication in that document or on the related web site that it is in the public domain (let alone PD-Own by the uploader). While it seems likely that the base map is taken from the USGS, the same cannot be said about the data layers that actually make the map interesting. --Latebird (talk) 10:13, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
