Welcome to Joanna Hardwoods--a small, family-owned and operated company in rural South Carolina whose purpose is to rescue antique southern heart pine from abandoned mills and warehouses. We reclaim and recycle this beautiful hardwood for use by discriminating individuals in distinctive flooring, stairs, walls, homes, and furniture. It is our pleasure to make this treasure of nature available to a new generation.

Southern heart pine has been prized since America's earliest days for its strength, durability, versatility, and beauty. Early settlers battled the British for control of the lush Southern yellow longleaf pine forests that carpeted what is now our Southeastern United States. With the need for homes, schools, bridges, towns, and factories spiraling at a relentless pace, these stately trees that had stood for hundreds of years literally laid the foundation for the country we are today. Conservation took a back seat to expansion in those early days; only now are we realizing the value of those virgin forests, the quality of the wood they produced, and the importance of protecting it for generations to come.

Antique southern heart pine--wood from the heart of the tree that is sometimes called hard pine--is one of the most desirable hardwoods on earth. Its sleek, straight timber, dense grain, unique amber color, and resistance to decay make it an ideal choice for building and construction. Unfortunately, virgin southern heart pine is virtually unavailable today, which makes salvaging the fruits of its predecessors a compelling cause and worthwhile investment.
