- After graduating form Satellite High School in 1984, Sean Slovik went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University at Galveston. Additionally, he became licensed as a Third Officer in the US Merchant Marine. His life at sea spanned from 1988 to 2001 where he progressed from Third Officer to Second Officer, and served aboard a variety of large commercial vessels. While aboard ships, most of his duties were related to navigation and cargo, but one collateral duty given to him was that of ship's Medical Officer. While he had relatively little training in these duties, it did interest him, and gave him experience in seeing cases of severe industrial injuries, chronic pain and depression.
