Me, Myself & Di is a charming new British comedy that is well worth giving a go. To mark its release, we had the pleasure in speaking to its three leading roles, speaking to model-turned-actress Lucy Pinder, newcomer Katy Clayton, and James Lance.
We discussed with all three performers the appeal of this movie, and just how much fun was had making the film. Pinder speaks about her childhood holidays, and working with the wonderful Clayton. She also talks about her career, and inclination to make more movies – and if she feels she has to work doubly hard to impress. Meanwhile Clayton tells us the funny story of how she actually auditioned for a much smaller role in the film, and talks about her own background in performance – and how creativity runs through her entire family.
And finally with Lance we speak about the value in just enjoying yourself while doing this job,...

We’re self-confessed geeks with an unashamed love for nostalgic – so needless to say that Max Cloud is a film that is right up our alley. Celebrating a digital release in the States this side of Christmas – and coming to British audiences in the New Year – we had the pleasure of speaking to two of the film’s leading stars, Elliot James Langridge and Scott Adkins, to celebrate this fun-filled sci-fi flick’s release.
You can watch both of our interviews in their entirety below, starting off with Elliot James Langridge, as he tells us about the joy in playing such an entertaining character, and connecting with his inner 16 year old girl (not as weird as that sounds). He also comments on his fruitful working relationship with the director Martin Owen, as the pair are set to be collaborating yet again on Twist. He also looks back over his breakthrough role in Northern Soul,...

Emma Thompson is set to take the leading role in the Sophie Hyde comedy ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’.
Based on an original screenplay by British Comedy award winner Katy Brand, Thompson will play the role of Nancy Stokes, a 55-year-old widow yearning for some adventure, human connection and good sex, which she was robbed of in her stable but stale marriage. To make things right, the ex-teacher devises a plan and hires the services of Leo Grande, a sex worker — or “sex therapist,” as he puts it — in his early 20s for a night of bliss.
Hyde said, “I’m thrilled to be working with the tremendously funny and heartbreakingly honest Emma Thompson to explore intimacy and desire and to put on screen a relationship that feels unexpected and delightful. At a time when our need for each other is so vividly present, it will be a delight...

HBO has cast British actor Josh Whitehouse in a lead role in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot, which comes from writer Jane Goldman and producer George R.R. Martin. He will join the previously cast Naomi Watts, who will play a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”
This is just the beginning of what is sure to end up being a big ensemble cast and I’m looking forward to learn more about the story and the character that will fill it.
I’m not really that familiar with Whitehouse’s work, but he starred in a film called Northern Soul and most recently wrapped the lead role in The Happy Worker. Whitehouse is also set to star in MGM’s musical retelling of the cult classic Valley Girl, and he’ll be playing the lead role originally played be Nicolas Cage. He currently can be seen in the BBC series Poldark.

Josh Whitehouse has been cast in a key role in the ensemble cast of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot, an individual with knowledge of the casting told TheWrap.
Whitehouse’s addition makes him the second actor cast on the Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin-created project, following Tuesday’s announcement that Naomi Watts will have a leading role.
No character details are currently available for Whitehouse’s part on the prequel pilot, which is currently untitled (unless you are going by Martin’s recent blog post.) But we do know Watts has been cast as a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.

Gary Oldman and Jessica Alba have joined a new film project called Killer Anonymous, which is said to have the potential of being a cult classic. The movie is being directed by Martin Owen (Let’s Be Evil) and this is the intriguing description of the film that Variety offered:
The film enters a world that exists beneath ours, beneath the day-to-day, the restraint and the order. For every life there is a death, and for every person there is an itch that only the few scratch; the dark voice that tells us to blow out the flame of another’s life. You might walk down a street and brush shoulders with a stranger and exchange a polite smile, completely unaware that stranger is picturing themselves stood above your bleeding body as you draw your final breath. There is a place for those people. They have all killed, they all think about killing,...

Rialto Distribution has acquired Australia and New Zealand rights to Genesius Pictures’ upcoming Mrs Lowry & Son, starring Timothy Spall and Vanessa Redgrave.
The film depicts the relationship between English artist L.S. Lowry and his mother Elizabeth, with whom he lived for the majority of his life. Production wrapped in March 2018 and Bafta-winning composer Craig Armstrong has now signed up to write the score.

Robbie Little, a familiar and well-loved figure at film markets who founded the Little Film Company with his wife Ellen, has died.
“Thank you, Sydney, for this loving tribute. You know, I remembered at some point that Robbie had called me around 1 am my time to say that he was up and getting ready to leave (and he sounded fine). So I realized he must have been awake and not asleep when he died so I e-mailed the police officer who found him and he confirmed to me that Robbie was on the floor and not in bed. It must have happened very fast because he didn’t have time to call for help. Love, Ellen”
Ellen Little became concerned when she had not heard from him four hours after he was to arrive in Cannes and called the hotel where he was staying in London. When they said he had checked out,...

Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Spall
Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave and BAFTA-nominee Timothy Spall are to star in Mrs Lowry & Son, about the relationship between British painter L.S. Lowry and his mother, Elizabeth.
Redgrave will play the role of Lowry’s mother opposite Spall in the role of painter Lowry who was famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century.
He developed a distinctive style of painting and is best known for his urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as ’matchstick men’.
The artist lived all of his life with his overbearing mother, a bed-ridden and depressed presence in her bachelor son’s life and a deterring voice as he pursued his artistic ambition. Spending his days as a rent collector, Lowry took art classes by night, painting into the early...

A startling portrait of girls at risk, with a magnificent performance by gonna-be-a-star Letitia Wright. Lovely, moving, utterly unsentimental. I’m “biast” (pro): desperate for movies about girls and women

It terrifies her, which isn’t surprising. Nor is it surprising that she has a very difficult time accepting the helping hand that comes in the form of a new social worker in the house, Kate Linton. This is a reprint of our review from the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. “What's your favorite record?” That is the key question asked in director Elaine Constantine’s “Northern Soul,” a rousing, wildly entertaining Toronto International Film Festival entry set in mid-1970s England. Here is a sonically explosive film that understands the deep connection that can exist between a genre of music and its fans, especially those who might be considered (or would consider themselves) outsiders. In this case, that genre is Northern Soul, a still-influential style of music that has never been properly documented onscreen before. While a few names will ring a bell to fans of soul music — Edwin Starr, for example — the majority are unfamiliar to even the most devoted trainspotters. What’s most important is that the predominantly African-American sung music moves, and pulsates with a triumphant feeling at odds with much of early-'70s U.

Among the films in competition for Best UK Feature is the thriller Love/Me/Do, the first fiction feature by Martin Stitt. A veteran of both actual wars and the war that is the financial world, Stitt started in filmmaking about 10 years ago, and his shorts have played some big festivals, including Sundance and Venice. For his first foray into a longer fiction film, Stitt entered that land mine-laden world of love and sex, and how trust can be found through good deeds, but perhaps as often, through bad ones. Antonia (Sarah Calder, Youth), an investment banker with a troubled past, and Max (Jack Gordon, Northern Soul), an out-of-work actor, are an odd...

The Toronto International Film Festival has cancelled its upcoming September 12 screening of Sydney Pollack's finally completed Aretha Franklin concert doc "Amazing Grace." The news arrives just after a Colorado federal judge granted the injunction to block Telluride's planned screening on September 4. Franklin's attorneys argue that Pollack—who died in 2008, over three decades after shooting the film in 1972—said he wouldn't use the footage he shot of Franklin without her consent. As reported out of Telluride over the weekend, after a 90-minute hearing, the judge stated that Franklin had granted permission to shoot "Amazing Grace" but producer Alan Elliot, who grabbed rights to the movie in 1998, needed her permission to release the film and did not have it. Toronto, which will instead screen "Northern Soul," issued the following statement Tuesday: We are extremely disappointed that Toronto audiences will not be able to see this extraordinary piece...

Organisers said on Tuesday they were “extremely disappointed” after producers on the Aretha Franklin documentary withdrew the film on the eve of the festival.
The filmmakers acted after a Colorado judge on Friday granted the soul diva an injunction blocking the Telluride world premiere of Amazing Grace.
Franklin filed papers last week arguing that she never gave permission for public viewing of footage shot in 1972 by the late Sydney Pollack while she performed at the Missionary Baptist Church in the South Central Los Angeles district of Watts.
On Friday, Toronto top brass held firm despite the development at Telluride and said they planned to go ahead with the screening.
But shortly afterwards Chicago Film Festival hierarchy announced they were pulling Amazing Grace from their October event.
“We are extremely disappointed that Toronto audiences will not be able to see this extraordinary piece of art,” Toronto International Film Festival organisers said in a statement.
