The return of The Diplomat is on the way. After the Netflix political thriller ended on a big cliffhanger in season 1, here’s a look at what questions remain ahead of The Diplomat Season 2. Plus, a few that have been answered by a teaser trailer.
Unanswered: Is Allison Janney’s vice president a friend or foe in ‘The Diplomat’ Season 2?
New episodes of The Diplomat bring with them some new faces. Among the new additions to the cast is Oscar-winner Allison Janney. She plays Grace Penn, the U.S. vice president who Keri Russell’s U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler will replace, if all goes according to plan.
The question is, though, is Penn a friend or foe? The answer, as showrunner Debora Cahn told Entertainment Weekly, could surprise viewers.
“Grace Penn is a problematic figure on a bunch of different levels. But she certainly falls in that category of...

Fall is here, which means it’s time to bundle up on your couch and stream the weekend away. Let’s get into it: There’s plenty to enjoy in October on Netflix, from a new Ali Wong special to new seasons of shows like “Love Is Blind” and “Unsolved Mysteries.” The real unsolved mystery is how it feels like there is more “Love Is Blind” dropping every month, but I digress.
October also brings with it the chance to watch Season 1 of “Yellowjackets” (a Showtime hit) for the first time on the Netflix platform, as well as more “Outer Banks” and “The Lincoln Lawyer.” The best bet, however, is the return of Keri Russell.
Top Pick: “The Diplomat” Season 2
Russell returns as U.S. ambassador to the U.K. Kate Wyler in this “The Americans” meets “Homeland” Emmy-nominated hit. Season 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger, so the six-episode Season...

Marvel has a new TV show on deck, and this one should seem familiar.
The aptly named “Agatha All Along” is centered on Kathryn Hahn’s character from “WandaVision” and is indeed named for the catchy tune she sang in that series. The show will follow Agatha as she works to not only get her powers back after Wanda’s spell left her trapped in a TV character persona, but also builds her own coven.
Here’s who we know for sure might be in or associated with that coven in the “Agatha All Along” cast ahead of the show’s Sept. 18 premiere on Disney+.

Sarah Snook’s 2023 Best Drama Actress Emmy victory specifically came for her 23-minute and 40-second performance in the “Tailgate Party” episode of “Succession.” Whereas she ranked second in terms of physical screen time in her own lineup behind only Keri Russell, the 2024 group includes five nominees whose submitted performances outpace hers by up to 18 minutes, with two even surpassing Russell’s.
The six current drama actress contenders asked voters to consider their work in episodes in which they appear for an average of 28 minutes and 28 seconds (or 47.03% of the total running time). This data was calculated using a simple definition of stand-alone screen time, which is any time a given performer can be seen on screen or heard off screen. Contiguous moments of silent and non-visible scene time were not counted.
Said physical average is almost twice the size of the corresponding male one, whereas the 2023 results were flipped with...

Weren't all of us fans of The Americans secretly hoping that Matthew Rhys would surprise us all and reunite with real-life wife Keri Russell to guest star in The Diplomat season 2? Maybe you weren't, but I know I was keeping my fingers crossed that the Emmy Award-winning actor would make an appearance in The Diplomat and face off with Kate Wyler. Well, Rhys will at least be on Netflix.
In August 2024, Variety reported that Matthew Rhys had joined fellow Emmy winner Claire Danes in the upcoming Netflix original limited series The Beast in Me. Danes, best known for her work in My So-Called Life and Homeland, joined the series that comes from Homeland co-creator Howard Gordon back in March. Along with starring in the series, Danes also executive produces.

Has 18 months ever felt so long? When we last saw The Diplomat’s American Ambassador to England Kate Wyler, energetically played by Emmy-nominated Keri Russell, she had a lot on her mind. In the closing minutes of the Season 1 finale, Kate — in Paris with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) to negotiate the arrest of Russian mercenary Roman Lenkov — learned that British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) was planning to assassinate him. And that the Pm, not Lenkov, had been behind an attack on a British warship that killed 41 soldiers and resulted in Kate’s posting to England. And if that’s not enough, though she and Dennison have been dancing around their mutual attraction, she appeared shattered when informed that her almost-ex-husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) and top aide Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh) had been caught in a car bombing in London. Then the screen went black, and...

The first teaser for The Diplomat season two answers one of the questions from the first season’s cliffhanger finale.
Yes, Kate Wyler’s (Keri Russell) husband and fellow ambassador, Hal (Rufus Sewell), survives the near-fatal explosion at the end of season one.
The preview shows Kate and Hal attending a glitzy evening event, walking arm in arm, suggesting a future for the pair after the first season featured them alternately fighting and making up as Kate sought to divorce Hal.
Both the season two synopsis and an article on Netflix’s Tudum updated Thursday confirm Hal is “very much alive” and suggests he’ll be an “ally” as she further explores the extent to which the British prime minister is involved in the attack on the British warship that started the series.
Here’s the full synopsis from Netflix: “A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Season 2 of its political thriller “The Diplomat.”
The trailer gives us our first look at Allison Janney as Vice President Grace Penn and answers one of the biggest questions fans had at the end of Season 1.
“A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world (Keri Russell). Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the U.K. didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government,” reads the series’ log line.
“As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), who is very much alive and very much involved. She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and...

Fall marks the start of the traditional TV season. And while streaming has made television a year-round spectacle, an avalanche of new and returning series make this autumn feel more special than recent years.
Hollywood’s content contraction, along with the post-pandemic and strike landscape results in less shows overall. But upcoming streaming, cable and broadcast offerings come with such promise that we had to double our traditional preview to fit a fraction of the noteworthy titles set to premiere in the coming months. Ryan Murphy is set to take over the conversation with four new shows across three networks — including FX’s “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie,” Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and ABC’s “Doctor Odyssey” — while returning favorites like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Diplomat” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” will keep fans entertained as the air starts to cool. Then there...

If you thought 2023 was a good year for Netflix shows, 2024 just might have last year beat. The year has already provided new hits like Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Gentlemen, Baby Reindeer, and Emily in Paris, but there are plenty more highly anticipated shows on the horizon. New seasons of Outer Banks, Squid Game, The Diplomat, and more are still to come in 2024.
Although the Hollywood strikes left multiple Netflix shows delayed until 2025, the streamer has confirmed plenty more shows premiering or returning with new shows in 2024. Now that we're heading into the last few months of the year, we're starting to see some big hits coming back to our watch lists and splashy new shows making their debuts.
While fans will surely be anxiously awaiting Ginny & Georgia season 3, Wednesday season 2, The Watcher season 2, You season 5, and more, there's still so much to look forward to in 2024. For now,...

It's been almost two years since we first met Noah Centineo's bumbling newbie CIA lawyer turned inadvertent field agent Owen Hendricks in The Recruit. The Netflix original spy comedy-drama became a quick hit and earned a season 2 renewal, though the dual Hollywood labor strikes delayed the fan-favorite from making its initially promised 2024 release date.
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that The Recruit season 2 would now be released in 2025 due to the effects of the strikes. While a production schedule was surely planned for soon after the January 2023 renewal for season 2, the strikes impacted Hollywood beginning in the summer then throughout the fall of 2023. Filming on season 2 didn't get underway until January 2024.

At Hidden Remote, we always have a recommendation for you at the ready whether you want to cry, solve a murder, or laugh until tears stream down your face. This list is all about the latter. Sometimes, what you're in the mood for is a show that's going to leave you in a good mood or your cheeks hurting from laughing. However, not every series that I'll be recommending is a through and through comedy.
Dramedies have been taking over the genre bit by bit and though there are moments that can be heart-wrenching or that switch on a dime into serious territory, they too will give you the chuckle you need. Also, there's a show that isn't a comedy on here but it's so humorous that it begs to be watched. Here's what you should tune into for a good time!

Best Netflix shows coming in 2025 or 2026
It's shocking to admit, but 2024 is almost over. We're getting into the second half of the year and nearing the end, which means 2025 is right around the corner. While a number of fan-favorite Netflix shows have made their premieres throughout 2024, there are still a large handful of strike-delayed and other big productions confirmed for release in 2025 — and in one case, 2026.
Obviously, we had held out hope that most of the biggest Netflix shows would be able to manage a release in 2024 amid challenges from strike delays and other setbacks. A decent amount have premiered and there are more yet to come this fall, such as The Diplomat season 2 and Outer Banks season 4, but others will just keep us hanging a little bit longer to savor the suspense.

If you loved the It movies as much as I did, then you’re probably as pumped as I am about the upcoming Welcome to Derry series, one of the most highly-anticipated new shows on the horizon — at least for horror fans.
Good scripted horror TV is sometimes hard to come by and when we do get a good show, they don’t usually last as long as we’d like them to.
There are horror television series that come to mind that have had long runs: Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and American Horror Story.
(Max / Screenshot)
But, over the years, they seem to lose the punch they had in their early seasons, becoming almost a mockery of themselves.
Sometimes short is sweet, but sometimes shows abruptly end before their time, such as the phenomenal Evil on Paramount+, disappointing their fans.

Sauron may be a powerful Dark Lord, but he’s a powerful Dark Lord who does not handle rejection well.
That is apparent in a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which sees him clashing with Galadriel, who rebuked his offer to rule together in the Season 1 finale. And after being ousted from Mordor by Adar (which we’ll learn all about in new episodes), it looks like he’ll cozy up to Celebrimbor in Eregion — much to the latter’s detriment.

The Diplomat now has a release date for Season 2 so here’s what else we know about the second year of the Netflix political drama!
Debuting in 2023, The Diplomat centers around Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), a top U.S. diplomat expecting to go to Afghanistan. Instead, when a British warship is attacked, Kate is sent to the UK as the new ambassador. With her is her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), a former ambassador before a personal scandal set his career back. Kate has to navigate the political problems while Hal makes his own moves to mar things.
Complicating matters is that Kate is unknowingly being set up to become the new Vice President of the United States, a position she doesn’t even want. As tension grows and it looks like war between the UK and Russia is coming, Kate’s job gets worse. The show has won critical praise...

Netflix’s The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell, is returning for season two this October. More on the show below.
It’s difficult to get a second season at Netflix these days, but 2023’s The Diplomat made it look effortless. The streaming service greenlit a second season of the political thriller a matter of days after the first season dropped.
Netflix have now announced that The Diplomat season two will arrive on 31st October. Considering how long most prestige TV shows take to film new seasons, The Diplomat returns to our screens rather quickly.
There’s no trailer yet, but Netflix did release two first-look images, one of which you can see below and at the top of this article.

Earlier this year, we heard The Diplomat season 2 would arrive on Netflix sometime in 2024, and now the streamer has confirmed the release date. Have any plans for Halloween this year, or will you be binging all the new episodes of the political thriller like us?
Announced today, The Diplomat season 2 will debut on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024. It has not been confirmed how many episodes the installment will entail, but we can most likely expect all episodes to drop at once considering Netflix has only shared one release date. That's great news!
The show's creator Debora Cahn teased of the second installment: “Season 1 ended with Kate’s (Keri Russell) realization that the attack on a British warship [that] brought her to the UK wasn’t the work of a hostile nation — it was the British prime minister. Now she has to prove it.”
Sound exciting? Here's everything else we know so far about The Diplomat season 2!

Netflix has revealed first-look images alongside a premiere date of the 31st of October for season 2 of ‘The Diplomat.’
In the first season, Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) is a seasoned foreign service officer more at home in a crisis zone than an upper-crust atmosphere. She’s planning to take her next post in Afghanistan when the White House comes calling with a change of orders, sending her to London as the US ambassador to the United Kingdom. It’s not the behind-the-scenes world she thrives in, but with war brewing on one continent and boiling over on another, her skills will still be called upon. Kate will have to defuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and charismatic political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).

Keri Russell will return as “The Diplomat” on Halloween. The Netflix drama series will debut all episodes of its second season on Oct. 31, the streamer revealed Thursday morning.
Season 2 of the series will pick up with Russell’s foreign correspondent Kate Wyler still navigating the life of a U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom and the threat of brewing warfare abroad.
The series launched in April 2023 and became an instant success for Netflix, debuting at the top of the streamer’s weekly global top 10 English TV list. It was renewed for a second season within two weeks of its premiere. Russell scored nominations at the Emmys and Golden Globes for her lead performance. The program itself landed a nod for best television series — drama at the Globes.
In January, Variety exclusively reported that Oscar-winner Allison Janney would join the series for Season 2, guest starring as Vice President Grace Penn.

The Diplomat is returning to Netflix just in time for the upcoming presidential election.
The streamer announced Thursday that Season 2 will debut on October 31. Along with the premiere date, two first look photos of star Keri Russell were also released.
Neither of the photos give much intel as to what will go down in Season 2, though they both give off a fairly somber tone. Without giving away any spoilers for Season 1, this would make sense given where the audiences leave Russell’s Kate Wyler in the explosive finale.

Netflix has set an October premiere date for “The Diplomat” Season 2.
The Keri Russell-led political thriller will return to the streamer on October 31 with its second installment, Netflix announced Thursday, alongside first-look images of Russell as a distressed Kate Wyler.
Season 2 will pick up after the dramatic cliffhanger in the Season 1 finale, in which a dramatic explosion left both Kate’s husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) and MP Merritt Grove (Simon Chandler) in peril. It seems as though the fallout of the perilous event will be revealed in the Season 2 premiere, as the first look image depicts Russell’s Kate in her red dress from the Season 1 finale.

Netflix’s The Diplomat is heading back to its situation room.
The Keri Russell-led drama released two first-look photos of season two on Thursday and announced the next installment’s release date.
Season one of The Diplomat, released in 2023, saw Russell star as Kate Wyler, “a seasoned foreign service officer more at home in a crisis zone than an upper-crust atmosphere,” the release reads. In the series’ first installment, she was set to take her next post in Afghanistan before a change of plans sent her to London as the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. Out of her element in aristocratic England, Kate was forced to push her diplomacy skills to the limit as multiple wars pressured United States foreign policy and, closer to home, competition brewed with her husband, Hal (played by Rufus Sewell).

Sauron is the architect of chaos in a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, premiering Thursday, Aug. 29 on Prime Video.
As we see in the above sneak peek, the Dark Lord’s deceptive tactics turn many — including Eregion’s ruler and master smith Celebrimbor — into unwitting collaborators.
