Glaphyrina plicata is a species of spindle snail, a large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Buccinidae, the spindle snails and tulip snails.

Note: Gastropod taxonomy has been in flux for many years. This is especially true currently, because of new research in molecular phylogeny. Because of all this on-going change, different reliable sources can yield very different classifications, especially within certain poorly understood groups.

Distribution

This species is endemic to the northern part of the North Island of New Zealand.

Habitat

It is found in waters of about 80 m.

Description

The shell is of similar size and shape to Glaphyrina vulpicolor but with fewer and stronger axial folds, 11 or 12 on the penultimate, compared with about 16 for vulpicolor, and a siphonal canal that is straight instead of flexed.

The shell coloration is orange-brown, with the primary cords darker.

The shell height is up to 44.5 mm, and width up to 19.5 mm.
