Description

David Regan's carved porcelain vessels are collected nationally and exhibited at the Garth Clark Gallery in New York and the Frank Lloyd Gallery in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1986 and MFA from Alfred University in 1990. In 1992 he was recipient of a Montana Arts Council Fellowship, and in 1993 he received a Western States Arts Federation fellowship. More recently, his work was included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Clay Into Art" exhibition. He lives and works in Missoula, Montana where he teaches part time at the University of Montana.

"Pottery interests me as an art form because it nourishes both body and spirit. It has a connection to everyday sustenance and can be a powerful reminder of simple, yet vital necessities. Historically, pots have always served as a medium of self expression, acknowledging that eating food is a psychological and spiritual experience, transcending merely the physiological. I work with forms that have a connection to traditional vessels, but are also challenging to contemporary sensibilities. I try to choose images which allude to the issue of interior space and containment and do not intend for my work to be viewed stripped of this utilitarian focus. Rather, I hope to emphasize the possibilities that pottery can evoke in health, well-being and imagination."
