2EC was initially known as Radio 2BE, and began broadcasting in the Bega Valley on the AM band on 30th September 1937.  As of 1st October 1987, after 50 years as 2BE, the new call sign 2EC was adopted to accurately reflect the stations total coverage area.  This is a 400 kilometre stretch from Ulladulla to the Victorian border and a population of over 64,000.  Nearly one quarter of this population are in the 25 to 44 year old age group, with over 17,000 people in the 45 to 64 age group.
